Tonight in Selma, AL!
City Council Candidate Forum For The Upcoming Municipal Election
6p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2025
Location: Tabernacle Baptist Church, 1431 Broad Street, Selma, AL
The Alabama Poor Peoples Campaign and the League of Women Voters of Alabama are cosponsoring a Candidate Forum for Selma, AL City Wards for the upcoming Municipal Election on August 26. This forum will provide an excellent opportunity for residents to hear directly from their City Council candidates about their priorities and vision. These events will also foster an open dialogue between local candidates and their community which will help ensure that the voices of Selma’s citizens—particularly low-income and historically underrepresented residents—are heard and respected. One comment from a recent survey conducted with Selma residents asked what could the City Officials do to improve things in your neighborhood was “Go into the Communities and see what needs to be done. Don’t send others”
Goals of the Candidate Forums:
• Promote voter mobilization and civic engagement of Selma residents in their community • Elevate community voices, especially those affected by poverty and systemic neglect
• Emphasize the benefits for government officials to engage directly with their neighborhoods, getting to know their constituents one-on-one, to understand their community’s concerns and needs.
Community Participation Encouraged:
Residents are urged to attend and bring their questions and concerns. These forums are a space for dialogue, transparency, and empowerment as Selma approaches a critical election season.
