Revelation 21:3-4 (NIV)

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Glenn Ray Delp, 84, of Panama City Beach, Florida, departed this life Sept. 13 following a courageous four-
year battle with cancer.
Ray was born in Galax, Virginia, to Bruce and Gladys Delp. He grew up in Independence, Virginia, and attended Berea College before earning his medical
degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He was a proud fellow of the American College
of Surgeons.
Ray’s commitment to service extended well beyond medicine. He proudly served his country as a
lieutenant colonel in the U. S. Air Force and as a flight surgeon during the Vietnam War. Following
his military service, he completed his surgical training at the University of Kentucky and the University of
California.
Ray went on to build a distinguished 33-year career as a general surgeon in Selma, Alabama. He served
as chief of surgery and chief of staff at Vaughan Regional Hospital and was chairman of the Vaughan
Foundation from its inception. Through the foundation, he worked tirelessly to provide medical assistance
to the people of Selma and Dallas County. He was also instrumental in the development and building of
Cedar Hill Assisted Living.
A dedicated member of Church Street United Methodist Church, Ray was deeply committed to his
community. He was active in numerous civic organizations, including the Historical Society, and he served as a
past medical director of Cahaba Hospice. His life reflected a genuine desire to care for others and to make
his community a better place.
Ray was also a devoted Alabama fan and took great pleasure in following Crimson Tide football and
basketball. He was a member of the Crimson Tide Foundation and enjoyed giving a big “Roll Tide” to anyone wearing the Alabama logo.
Away from medicine and community service, golf was Ray’s passion. He loved the game, but even more
he treasured the friendships he made on the golf course. For Ray, the companionship and camaraderie of
his golfing buddies were the true rewards of the game.
Above all, Ray cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Edie; his son, Chad Delp
(Allison); his daughter, Ashley Walker (Justin); and his five wonderful grandchildren, Townes Delp, Warren Delp, Tilden
Delp, Elle Walker and Jackson Walker; his brother Gary Delp (Judy); and his bonus family members Rana, Samer, Judy and Jude Assaad.
Ray leaves behind a remarkable legacy of service— as a physician, military officer, community leader,
husband, father, grandfather and friend. His kindness, dedication, humor and love for those around him
will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Ray’s memory by showing kindness to others. A simple act of compassion, a helping hand or a kind word would all be a reflection of the kindness he brought into the lives of those who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held on Oct. 4 at 11 a.m. CDT at Shark’s Tooth Country Club, Panama City Beach, Florida.
