We are communicating with God we can't find peace in him until we accomplish something. The free gift of God is peace and rest, and we get to learn to abide in him and learn how to rest from him.

Jesus didn’t come to make bad people better. He came to make dead things alive. He is the resurrection and the life. We spend so much of our Christian lives trying to earn grace that has already been freely given.
You don’t have to perform for what Jesus has already paid for. Just receive it.
