My dear friends and fellow workers in Christ:
I put this on the Web before but I feel it is well worth putting out again.
In place of my regular monthly letter I have decided to quote a piece from Keith Staulcup received by me via the Sr. Warden at St. Patrick’s Church in Deer Park on Long Island, NY where I served as Rector for five years. I hope you enjoy it as I did.
“If you are spiritually alive, you are going to love this. If you are spiritually dead, you won’t want to read it. If you are spiritually curious, there is still hope.
A church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. I’ve gone for 30 years now he wrote, and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons, but for the life of me I can’t remember a single one of them. So, I think I’m wasting my time and the priests are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all.
This started a real controversy in the Letter to the Editor column. Much to the delight of the editor, it went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher. I’ve been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But, I know this: They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me those meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!
When you are DOWN to nothing, GOD is UP to something. Faith sees the invisible believes the impossible! Thank GOD for our physical and spiritual nourishment.
IF YOU CAN NOT SEE GOD IN ALL….YOU CANOT SEE GOD AT ALL1
BIBLE simply means Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. When you carry your Bible, Satan gets a headache. When you open it, he collapses. When he sees you reading it, he loses his strength. When you stand on the word of GOD, Satan can’t hurt you. When Satan is knocking at your door, simply says Jesus, could you get that for me?”
Peace be with you all,
James Clavin
Senior Warden”
And that my friends is my message for this month also. Thank you James for sharing with us.
God bless you all,
The Rev. Glenn Duffy
