“He himself bore our sins in his body upon the cross, so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”
— 1 Peter 2:24
The ministry of Legendary Lodge has always been a group effort. Long before any of us got here, people were praying, sacrificing, building, and believing in what could happen on this piece of land on the shores of Salmon Lake.
After a windstorm recently took down the large cross overlooking camp, we knew we needed help getting another one built and back in place before campers arrived this summer. We reached out to Beyond 227, a nonprofit committed to carrying forward the mission and spirit of Father Stu Long, and they immediately got to work.
A small crew spent the weekend hauling tools up the mountain and building a new cross from trees taken right off the mountain itself. By the end of the weekend, an 18-foot cross was standing once again above the camp and lake below.
For years, campers have climbed that mountain carrying crosses of their own. On that mountainside we have offered Mass, prayed together, wrestled with hard questions, and watched the Lord call disciple after disciple. Thousands of young people have sat beneath that cross and, maybe for the first time, felt the peace that only the Lord can give.
And now another generation will too.
Thank you, Beyond 227, for your generosity, your hard work, and for helping us continue the mission.
