Wesley is a group of diverse, caring people united in our mission to Lead people to an active faith in Christ. Our local roots go back to the Methodist Episcopal Church South of Sedalia, established in 1870. The original frame building was replaced by a new one at Third and Massachusetts in 1891. When a new building was erected on the same site in 1901, the name was changed to Fifth Street Methodi

st Church. In 1954 ground was broken for the current building at Broadway and Carr. The name Wesley Methodist was chosen by the congregation for the new beginning at this location. In 1968, with a denominational merger, the name was changed to Wesley United Methodist, reflecting the name of the new denomination.

FUNERAL INFO UPDATE: Rev. Franklin's funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Platte Woods UMC, 7310 NW Prairie View Rd, Platte Woods, MO 64151. A reception will follow.

We remember the life and ministry of our brother in Christ Rev. Doug Franklin on his death earlier this morning, Monday, Aug. 31, 2026. Rev. Franklin had served North Star Church for five years.

Rev. Franklin began his ministry in Missouri in 2001 as an associate pastor at Pleasant Hill. In his 25 years in ministry, he served a number of churches including Smith Chapel in Napton, Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church and Dockery Chapel. He began his ministry at North Star UMC in July 2020.

Please keep Doug’s wife, Nicole, and their four children – Tucker, Tanner, Delaney, Darbey – in your prayers. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
