Franciscan Mission Outreach is a non-profit organization that supports the missionary efforts, life and ministries of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal.

FMO has been active in Latin America, the Carribbean and Africa, as well as in the US.

We just received word last week from our friends at MiDo in Italy that Aminatou Amadou, a 16 year old young woman in Cameroon, underwent successful heart valve replacement surgery on August 11 at the Shisong Cardiac Center Rescue Mission in Yaounde. Aminatou took the place of Abigail from the March round of surgeries as an FMO-MiDo cosponsored patient. The total cost for her surgery was 3,450,550 Central African Francs (= €5,268 = $6,100). A small amount of the funds we raised is left and will be applied to a future surgery. THANK YOU FOR HELPING MAKE THIS POSSIBLE!

Please pray for Aminatou and her family; she lost her mother the same year she was first diagnosed with a heart condition in 2017. Due to multiple complications an initial surgery on August 9 had to be paused; the intervention was resumed and completed on the 11th. She will need additional surgeries in the future.

CONSECRATION OF THE CHURCH ON CAYO BONACCA! La Ceiba bishop Jenrry Velasquez traveled to Guanaja on August 12 to consecrate the newly rebuilt church of Our Lady of God's Little Corner. The ceremony began outside at the front door, with the architect, Julieta Lopez, presenting the model of the church to the bishop, and pastor Norberto Marroquín presenting the keys. We processed in, and after the homily the bishop incensed the altar and anointed it, along with the four main columns, with sacred Chrism. It was a jubilant celebration with heartfelt praise and gratitude to God!

Fr. Herald was in Honduras last week for the dedication of the new church of Our Lady of God's Little Corner. The previous church burned to the ground in 2021, and since then we've been a journey of fundraising and construction with lots of obstacles and twists and turns. But now the church is structurally complete and really beautiful. The few remaining details on the first floor (church and priest's room) will be done soon; the second floor will take a little longer. But it's ready to be blessed and used, praise God!

The latest video of the church of Our Lady of God's Little Corner, Cayo Bonacca, Guanaja, Honduras. We're in the final stretch. Bishop Jenrry Johel Velásquez Hernández of La Ceiba will bless the new church this coming Wednesday, August 12. Frs Norberto (pastor) and Natividad (associate) of Roatan will join. Fr. Herald will be there, too, and stay through the patronal feast of the Assumption on Saturday, August 15.

TRAGIC FIRE IN HAITI: In May the guest house/formation center of the Little Brothers of St. Therese in Palmiste-à-Vin. It did heavy damage to the center, but fortunately no one was injured. The Brothers now begin the difficult process of raising funds and rebuilding. The Franciscan Friars of the Renewal and Franciscan Mission Outreach will be lending a hand, please join us in helping to rebuild a center of hope in a sorely tried country.

SEEDS AND SPROUTS IN HAITI ROUND 2: A very successful effort that FMO and the Little Brothers of St. Therese carried out in Beausejour has been replicated in another village, Palmiste-à-Vin. Banana seedlings and pistachio seeds were distributed to 100 families to plant and cultivate. Once the fruit and seeds are harvested, the families will "pay it forward" returning a portion to the Brothers who will then share them with additional families. And so on, and so on, and so on...

GREAT NEWS! The new transmitter for Radio Emmanuel in the Diocese of Torit, South Sudan, has finally been delivered! The previous transmitter was destroyed by fire, and the new one was ordered last year. Due to the disarray in the South Sudanese government, the transmitter was held up in customs in Mombassa, Kenya for many months. It had a short stall in South Sudan's capital, Juba, and finally arrived in Torit last week. Photos of the installation coming soon!
