6th day - Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

As we consider the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Christ’s great love for humanity, we reflect on how we have fallen short of his love and the need to atone for our sins. We also take this moment to repent as a nation for the sins of our country’s past. Let us pray for forgiveness and healing from the harms caused by our nation’s original sins of slavery and racism. A central element of devotion to the Sacred Heart is reparation – the practice of making amends for the wrongs we have done, asking Christ to forgive our sins and convert our hearts to love as he loves. Let us pray with St. Alphonsus Liguori, founder of the Redemptorists, as we atone for our sins and consecrate ourselves to the heart of Jesus:

My Jesus, I love You with my whole heart. I am sorry for having so many times offended Your infinite goodness. With the help of Your grace, I purpose never to offend You again. And now, unworthy though I am, I consecrate myself to You without reserve. I renounce and give entirely to You my will, my affection, my desires, and all that I possess.

Sexto dia - Novena al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús

Al considerar el Sagrado Corazón de Jesús y el gran amor de Cristo por la humanidad, reflexionamos sobre cómo hemos fallado en alcanzar su amor y la necesidad de expiar nuestros pecados. También aprovechamos este momento para arrepentirnos como nación por los pecados del pasado de nuestro país. Oremos por el perdón y la sanación de los daños causados por los pecados originales de la esclavitud y el racismo de nuestra nación. Un elemento central de la devoción al Sagrado Corazón es la reparación – la práctica de enmendar los errores que hemos cometido, pidiendo a Cristo que perdone nuestros pecados y convierta nuestros corazones para amar como Él ama. Oremos con San Alfonso María de Ligorio, fundador de los Redentoristas, mientras expiamos nuestros pecados y nos consagramos al corazón de Jesús.

Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus - 5th Day

The love poured out from the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a constant source of renewal for the missionary spirit of the Church and our call to universal holiness. Servant of God Fr. Jules Chevalier, who founded the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1854, recited this daily prayer to remain close to the Sacred Heart.

Sunday Gospel Reflection by Bishop Robert Barron.
- Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.

Friends, today’s Gospel passage (John 6:51–58) is one of the most shocking in the New Testament. Those who heard it were not only repulsed intellectually; they were disgusted, viscerally. For a Jewish man to be insinuating that you should eat his own flesh and drink his blood was about as nauseating and religiously objectionable as you could get.

So what does Jesus do? Does he soften his rhetoric? Does he offer a metaphorical or symbolic interpretation? Does he back off? On the contrary, he intensifies what he just said: “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.” As all the scholars point out to us, the verb used here in Greek is “trogein,” which indicates the way an animal eats.

So what do we do? If we stand in the great Catholic tradition, we honor these mysterious and wonderful words of Jesus. We resist all attempts to soften them or explain them away or make them easier to swallow. We affirm, with all of our hearts, the doctrine of the real presence.

Reflexión del Evangelio del día de hoy.
- Solemnidad de Corpus Christi

Volvamos a Él con amor sincero. Abrámonos al encuentro con Él, dejemos que hidrate las sequedades de nuestro corazón, para salir después a los caminos de la vida y de la historia y llevar entre la gente esta corriente de agua fresca, corriente de amor, de paz, de justicia y de alegría. Evangelio según san Juan 6, 51-58:

En aquel tiempo, dijo Jesús a los judíos:
«Yo soy el pan vivo que ha bajado del cielo; el que coma de este pan vivirá para siempre. Y el pan que yo daré es mi carne por la vida del mundo».
Disputaban los judíos entre sí:
«Cómo puede este darnos a comer su carne?».
Entonces Jesús les dijo:
«En verdad, en verdad os digo: si no coméis la carne del Hijo del hombre y no bebéis su sangre, no tenéis vida en vosotros. El que come mi carne y bebe mi sangre tiene vida eterna, y yo lo resucitaré en el último día.

Fourth Day- Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Perhaps the most well-known reflection on the merciful heart of Jesus can be found in the Divine Mercy devotion. Saint Faustina Kowalska, a 20th century Polish sister, revealed that Jesus appeared to her with rays emanating from his heart and instructed her to paint his image with the signature “Jesus, I trust in you,” and that all who venerate the image of Divine Mercy will not perish. Trusting in the endless mercy of Jesus, let us pray with Saint Faustina from the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

Cuarto día -Novena al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús

Quizás la reflexión más conocida sobre el corazón misericordioso de Jesús se encuentra en la devoción a la Divina Misericordia. Santa Faustina Kowalska, una religiosa polaca del siglo XX, reveló que Jesús se le apareció con rayos que emanaban de su corazón y le ordenó pintar su imagen con la firma “Jesús, en ti confío”, y que todos los que veneran la imagen de la Divina Misericordia no perecerán. Confiando en la infinita misericordia de Jesús, recemos con Santa Faustina esta oración de la Coronilla de la Divina Misericordia.
