Good morning Church family, this coming Saturday is July 4th, the time when we reflect on and celebrate our country's "Declaration of Independence" and least for those of us who hold dearly to that. However, more importantly as Christians we are free in our spirits, and today we fight for the spiritual freedom of our own generation, our children, and grandchildren from the oppression of "Evil." We look ahead to the time when "Evil" will be vanquished for eternity. As it says in the Hebrews, "we desire a better country, that is a heavenly one." Make no mistake, we know that the "world" around us is enslaved; however, "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and death." Amen! Have a blessed Lord's Day!

Good Morning Church family: By now we have all heard and maybe even seen what is happening in what is known as the Emerald City, specifically on the east side in the capitol hill area of downtown. And it is understandable that many are concerned about it, and some may be even fearful in regards to it. And that is what I want to mainly address and focus on in my missive this morning. We indeed need to be in fervent prayer for our city and what is happening, and realize that this is spiritual darkness. For there is nothing of God, good or righteous about what is going on. Plain and simple it is of evil and wickedness; arising from high places, and I believe higher places than even those involved in these things realize. However that being said, I believe that as Christians there is nothing and do mean nothing for us to fear in this regard. Let me share a few Scriptures that can help us to see that; and if we do become fearful we can reflect on. Look at what David says in:
Psalm 23:1-6 (NASB77)
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters.
3 He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.
5 Thou dost prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; Thou hast anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Psalm 27:1 (NASB77)
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?
And one more from the Psalms:
Psalm 118:5-9 (NASB77)
5 From my distress I called upon the LORD; The LORD answered me and set me in a large place.
6 The LORD is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me?
7 The LORD is for me among those who help me; Therefore I shall look with satisfaction on those who hate me.
8 It is better to take refuge in the LORD Than to trust in man.
9 It is better to take refuge in the LORD Than to trust in princes.
As we reflect on these, it we are in distress, let us call on the Lord, for it is better as the writer says to take refuge in the Lord God and put our ultimate trust in Him. Finally, let us remember when we get fearful because of circumstances in our life, or things that we see happening near or around us that are of wickedness and evil what our Lord Christ Jesus teaches us. For this let us turn to Matthew the tenth chapter:
Matthew 10:28-31 (NASB77)
28 "And do not fear those who kill the body, but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
29 " Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.
30 "But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31 "Therefore do not fear; you are of more value than many sparrows.

As you all may have surmised, we are still not yet at the point where we can assemble together; however, we can pray that it will be soon. The governor as not let King County move into phase 2 as of yet, but hopefully that will happen before June 28th. In the meantime we are preparing things in the building to meet the WA Dept. of Health's guidelines. There are quite a list of things that we need to have in place before we can assemble together again. And we will keep everyone informed as things proceed.

I pray that we can find encouragement and strength in the above Scriptures. Now may the grace and peace of our Lord Christ Jesus be with you all this Lord's Day, and in the coming week.

God Bless,
Brother Lyle

Good morning Church family: I dearly wish we could have been together today, but it was not to be just yet. There are still a number of things that need to be done before we can do so and we are in the process of putting things together so that we can. Our county has still not moved into phase two as of yet, but at least we are in what is being called phase 1.5. And so things are beginning to be opened up a little bit. For instance you can go to a restaurant now, as long as there is no more than five people. And even some retail stores will now begin to open for a limited amount of people. And yes these places have guidelines they are to follow as well. That being said, hopefully our county will be in phase 2 before too long so that we can move forward in getting back together physically as a church family. I heard that Snohomish county has been allowed to go into phase two and so for many of us in live in that county things will be better. Sometimes I think that we are living out many of the aspects of what the author George Orwell (Eric Blair) wrote in his novel, "1984".

That being said, I want to turn to the Scriptures this morning and express my thoughts toward all of you in our church. It comes from one of my favorite epistles of the Apostle Paul, that of Philippians and is found in the fist chapter:

Philippians 1:3-8 (NASB77)
3 I thank my God in all my remembrance of you,
4 always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all,
5 in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now.
6 For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
7 For it is only right for me to feel this way about you all, because I have you in my heart, since both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers of grace with me.
8 For God is my witness, how I long for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus.

The Apostle was imprisoned at the time he wrote this to the church at Philippi, and I believe that we can see from this text that he dearly missed the brothers and sisters there. And often in these last weeks we have all properly felt somewhat imprisoned in our home, only going out if essential and so forth. However, even though that is the case, we can lift one another up in prayer, and be assured my dear brothers and sisters I strive to do that each and every day for all of you. And as with the Apostle Paul it is done with joy, and I hold you all close to my heart. And as Paul says in verse eight, I too echo that sentiment, "how I long for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus." My brothers and sisters in Christ, as the little chorus we sing says, "the joy of the Lord is our strength," because it is what we have in Christ Jesus that makes it so. Praying the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ for you all this week.

God Bless,
Brother Lyle

Good morning Church family: Today is the day before Memorial Day, and the weekend is commonly known in that way as well. Nevertheless, the first day of the week remains the Lord's Day. Which I believe is Scriptural as well, take note of Revelation 1:10, Acts 20:7, I Corinthians 11:20 and 16:2. It is to us as followers of Christ the day in which we assemble to worship through lifting our voices up to the Lord in song and praise, study His written Word together, and partake of the Lord's Supper that we might remember our Saviour's death, burial and resurrection. So in effect every Lord's Day is an Memorial Day for all of us who belong to the Lord Christ Jesus. It reminds of the passage found in Hebrews 11:13-16, which read as follows:
Hebrews 11:13-16 (NASB77)
13 All these died in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, and having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.
14 For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own.
15 And indeed if they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return.
16 But as it is, they desire a better country, that is a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them.

This whole chapter of Hebrews is given to us an example of those who went before us, in fact we often call them "the heroes of the faith," and indeed they are. However, more than that they were also "pilgrims" on the earth, that is seeking for a better place. And we are told that God "has prepared a city for them." Indeed He has for this will be the "New Jerusalem" as the book of Revelation outlines for us. And it also reminds us that we ourselves are "pilgrims" on this earth and how just as those mentioned in Hebrews 11 sought for a "heavenly city" so do we. And that is why we as Christians are told in Hebrews 12:1 ". . . run with endurance the race that is set before us." My brothers and sisters that "race" is that of the pilgrimage of the Christian life. And it indeed is an enduring one because of the things that can beset and hinder us, which in essence is what the full verse of Hebrews 12:1 says,
Hebrews 12:1 (NASB77)
1 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
All that being said, it is also proper and important that we remember and teach our children and grandchildren, etc. why we in our country have a day set aside as Memorial Day. Because there are those who also gave their own lives in defense of our own country that we hold dear. Unlike many today they knew what the freedom and liberty of our country meant and what would happen if that was lost and many gave their lives in order that we might continue to live in a free country and give freedom and liberty to others elsewhere in the world. And we know that it still happens and has happened here in the early decades of the 21st century. Many of us have loved ones and friends that gave their lives in this way. Indeed it was a tremendous sacrifice. And so it is right that we honor them in a special way as we strive to do each Memorial Day.

That being said, each and every Lord's Day we gather together to remember the greatest sacrifice of all, and that is our Lord and Saviour Christ Jesus. As verse two of Hebrews twelve reminds us:
Hebrews 12:2 (NASB77)
2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

I pray that even though we are not physically together at this time that we can find hope and encouragement in these words. May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Have a great week in the Lord.

Agape, Brother Lyle

05/17/2020

Good morning everyone, may we all be ready to gather with our families and loved one's this morning to lift our voices up in songs of praise and worship to our Heavenly Father and His Son our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. And then to partake of the Lord's Supper in our homes. To prepare to do this, this morning I thought I would share some verses from one of my favorite Psalms. The part of this Psalm that I want to share has also been set to music and I believe we have sang it a few times. Anyway it comes from Psalm 42, here are the verses:

Psalm 42:1-4 (NASB77)
1
As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for Thee, O God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God?
3 My tears have been my food day and night, While they say to me all day long, "Where is your God?"
4 These things I remember, and I pour out my soul within me. For I used to go along with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God, With the voice of joy and thanksgiving, a multitude keeping festival.
At this time in our lives and what we are experiencing with this shut down of our gatherings I believe that this is an appropriate Psalm to meditate and ponder on.
Let us look at what encouragement and hope it can give us. Now, I don't know about everyone, but this being away from one another sure makes me want to thirst for the Lord God and His ways. That thirst should encourage us to seek Him every day in prayer and His Word. We might ask ourselves the question the Psalm writer asked and say indeed I think the same thing, especially now. However, brothers and sisters, wherever we maybe we can appear before God, for that is what prayer is for. To help bring us into His presence, spiritually speaking, and we can do that not only on the Lord's Day but throughout the week. And I believe that is why it is important that we pour out to the Lord God what is on our hearts at any given moment. We also might find ourselves discouraged, because we hear others saying, "Where is your God in all of this?" Don't you find it interesting that most of the people who ask such questions, don't believe in God and don't want to follow Him anyway. That's quite ironic isn't it? I think so! However, we know as Christians that God is aware of all things and that yes He allows things to happen, however that does not mean He causes them. There is a difference! The fact is that we live in a broken and disordered world caused by disobedience from the first two people that God created. And thus we have various diseases, weather disturbances, and countless forms of evil to deal with in our existence on this world. However, we know that He gave us the way to bring order and wholeness into our lives through His Son Christ Jesus. The Lord God gave us His final answer in His Son, so states Hebrews 1:1-4. And yes much like the Psalm writer says we used to go to our building and meet together to worship God. And yes, the Lord God still answers prayer, but even then as much as people do not want to accept it, there are conditions to be met. Read Psalm 66:18, 2 Timothy 2:22. Further the book of James, especially chapter one and four make it crystal clear that motives are important in this regard.. And oh, how we should long for these things. And I want to reiterate that we will be able to do that once again. These are just temporary circumstances and we as brothers and sisters in Christ need to see it that way.

So, my brothers and sisters whenever we feel discouraged or down because of what is happening in our lives and in the church let us think of these words from Psalm 42.

Now may the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all this week, until we meet again.

God Bless,
Brother Lyle

Dear Crown Hill Church family: I pray that all is well with you and you having a good week in the Lord so far. Two verses of Scriptures are on my mind this evening to share with you all. It is what the Apostle Paul says in Romans 14:19-"So then let us pursue the things which make for peace and building up of one another." The word translated "building up" could also be translated "edifying." May we encourage one another as brothers and sisters in Christ to indeed pursue those things in order that we have peace and can build up or edify one another. And in line with that is

Ephesians 4:12-13 (NASB77)
12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;
13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fulness of Christ.

In regards to that I would also like to share this thought from Dietrich Bonhoeffer which he wrote in his book, "Life Together." Bonhoeffer wrote this: "If we do not give thanks daily for the Christian fellowship in which we have been placed, even where there is no great experience, no discoverable riches, but much weakness, small faith, and difficulty . . . then we hinder God from letting our fellowship grow according to the measure and riches which are there for us all in Jesus Christ."

I believe the above not only can encourage us but give us much to ponder on as we navigate through these trying and difficult times. May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you dear ones. Praying for you all daily! Have a good evening in the Lord and a good night's rest.

God Bless,
Brother Lyle

Good morning Church family: May this Lord's Day find you all well and praising the Lord for this day and every day. We are now passing our seventh Sunday without meeting together. It almost seems as if we are in exile, and of course in a way this stay-in-place order is a form of exile. Be that as it may, we can still encourage and show our love for one another. In this regard, happy mother's day to all of our mothers in our church family and elsewhere! May you all have a good day in the Lord!

2 Corinthians 2:14-17 (NASB77)
14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us in His triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.
15 For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing;
16 to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. And who is adequate for these things?
17 For we are not like many, peddling the word of God, but as from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God.

What a magnificent passage of Scripture this is my brothers and sisters, for we do triumph in Christ no matter what! Further, we are the fragrance (aroma) of Christ to one another as well as to those who are lost without Christ. This is such an awesome privilege; and might I add responsibility that is our as disciples of Christ and one that we must not take lightly. I pray that we may find nourishment for our spirits in these two passages, as well a challenge and encouragement for all of us in these difficult times we are experiencing.

May the grace and peace of our Lord Christ Jesus be with you today as you gather with your families, sing praises to Him together, and celebrate the Lord's Supper with one another. We miss you all and can't wait until we can be together physically once again.

God Bless,
Brother Lyle

Good morning Crown Hill Church Family: Today is our sixth week were we have not been able to meet together physically speaking. And my heart yearns for us to be together once again. To hear Tony play, and Jeff lead us in song, as we lift our voices up to our Heavenly Father in worship and then gather around the Lord's Table to celebrate the remembrance of Christ's death, burial and resurrection together. To preach His Word and have sweet fellowship with one another afterwards. Alas, it is still going to be awhile before we can do that. However, here is some encouragement from one of the Psalms that David wrote:

Psalm 62:5-8 (NASB77)
5 My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him.
6 He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.
7 On God my salvation and my glory rest; The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God.
8 Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah.

What great encouragement we can find in these verses from David who wrote this Psalm. Our hope brothers and sisters in Him, He alone is our salvation and refuge. We shall not and will be shaken, if we trust in Him at all times. Let us indeed pour our hearts out to almighty God in these perilous times we are experiencing. Praise Yahweh, He is our everlasting stronghold! I pray that this finds you all safe and well! May God indeed be with us all until we are able to meet again. Have a blessed day in the Lord. Through the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ, amen!

G. K. Chesterton wrote this many years ago: "We do not want, as the newspapers say, a Church that will move with the world. We want a Church that will move the world. We want one that will move it away from any of the things towards which it is now moving; for instance, the Servile State. It is by that test that history will judge, of any Church, whether it is the real Church or no."

I tell you what! This is something indeed for us to ponder in these times!

04/26/2020

Good morning Church Family: It is now our fifth Lord's day in which we have not been able to meet together physically to worship our Lord through the singing of songs, hearing the proclaiming of His Word and celebrate around the Lord's Table together. Who would ever have thought that such a thing would happen in our lifetimes. However, it has and so we must deal with it and communicate in other ways. Which we are indeed doing in various ways. It can be easy to lose our focus, and become discouraged and fearful during such times as these; however, we can find encouragement in God's Word to bolster our spirits and take away those fears.

I want to turn your attention to another Psalm this morning that I believe we can find encouragement in and that is Psalm 84:-5, along with 10-12.
Psalm 84:1-5 (NASB77)
1
How lovely are Thy dwelling places, O LORD of hosts!
2 My soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the LORD; My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.
3 The bird also has found a house, And the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, Even Thine altars, O LORD of hosts, My King and my God.
4 How blessed are those who dwell in Thy house! They are ever praising Thee. Selah.
5 How blessed is the man whose strength is in Thee; In whose heart are the highways to Zion!
Psalm 84:10-12 (NASB77)
10 For a day in Thy courts is better than a thousand outside. I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God, Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
12 O LORD of hosts, How blessed is the man who trusts in Thee!
Notice what the Psalm writer is saying here, God's dwelling place is lovely. That is how we should see ourselves for the Lord God's dwelling place is we ourselves now, we are the temple (dwelling place) of the Holy Spirit. This is what we find that Paul teaches us in I Corinthians, and so we are indeed blessed and may we ever praise Him. And as the Psalm says as well may we realize that our strength is in the Lord because He is with us. When we feel burdened, depressed and anxious let us remember that the Lord God is our radiance, and protector (shield), that His grace has been bestowed upon us through His Son our Lord Jesus Christ. May we trust Him in all things and whatever happens in our lives. I would encourage us to reflect on each one of these verses this morning and throughout the week.

May the grace, shalom, and agape of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you! Have a great week in the Lord!

Blessings,
Brother Lyle
