Good morning everyone, may we all be ready to gather with our families and loved one's this morning to lift our voices up in songs of praise and worship to our Heavenly Father and His Son our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. And then to partake of the Lord's Supper in our homes. To prepare to do this, this morning I thought I would share some verses from one of my favorite Psalms. The part of this Psalm that I want to share has also been set to music and I believe we have sang it a few times. Anyway it comes from Psalm 42, here are the verses:
Psalm 42:1-4 (NASB77)
1
As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for Thee, O God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God?
3 My tears have been my food day and night, While they say to me all day long, "Where is your God?"
4 These things I remember, and I pour out my soul within me. For I used to go along with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God, With the voice of joy and thanksgiving, a multitude keeping festival.
At this time in our lives and what we are experiencing with this shut down of our gatherings I believe that this is an appropriate Psalm to meditate and ponder on.
Let us look at what encouragement and hope it can give us. Now, I don't know about everyone, but this being away from one another sure makes me want to thirst for the Lord God and His ways. That thirst should encourage us to seek Him every day in prayer and His Word. We might ask ourselves the question the Psalm writer asked and say indeed I think the same thing, especially now. However, brothers and sisters, wherever we maybe we can appear before God, for that is what prayer is for. To help bring us into His presence, spiritually speaking, and we can do that not only on the Lord's Day but throughout the week. And I believe that is why it is important that we pour out to the Lord God what is on our hearts at any given moment. We also might find ourselves discouraged, because we hear others saying, "Where is your God in all of this?" Don't you find it interesting that most of the people who ask such questions, don't believe in God and don't want to follow Him anyway. That's quite ironic isn't it? I think so! However, we know as Christians that God is aware of all things and that yes He allows things to happen, however that does not mean He causes them. There is a difference! The fact is that we live in a broken and disordered world caused by disobedience from the first two people that God created. And thus we have various diseases, weather disturbances, and countless forms of evil to deal with in our existence on this world. However, we know that He gave us the way to bring order and wholeness into our lives through His Son Christ Jesus. The Lord God gave us His final answer in His Son, so states Hebrews 1:1-4. And yes much like the Psalm writer says we used to go to our building and meet together to worship God. And yes, the Lord God still answers prayer, but even then as much as people do not want to accept it, there are conditions to be met. Read Psalm 66:18, 2 Timothy 2:22. Further the book of James, especially chapter one and four make it crystal clear that motives are important in this regard.. And oh, how we should long for these things. And I want to reiterate that we will be able to do that once again. These are just temporary circumstances and we as brothers and sisters in Christ need to see it that way.
So, my brothers and sisters whenever we feel discouraged or down because of what is happening in our lives and in the church let us think of these words from Psalm 42.
Now may the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all this week, until we meet again.
God Bless,
Brother Lyle
