REGIONAL HISTORY FACTS - February 28

In honor of Black History Month, we will be sharing little known nuggets about currently active or former Seventh-day Adventists of African descent who have made contributions both within and beyond our borders.

TODAY: David Person, Media Personality

Today we are pleased to put the spotlight on David Person, a personal friend, former classmate, and proud alumnus of Oakwood University. David is the owner of David Person Media, LLC., and his work has been featured on National Public Radio (NPR), as well as Black America Web. David was front-and-center last year representing the family of Little Richard, and coordinating with Mid-City Huntsville and other area entrepreneurs to complete the mural of the iconic singer.

He was also instrumental in the movement of the confederate monument that was once had a home in front of the Madison County Courthouse. David is always makes himself available, serving as mentor to a number of aspiring students who seek his advice. Not only is David willing to lend his expertise to students, but he also consults non-profit organizations in the areas of media content, media production and media relations. A former columnist for The Huntsville Times, we are truly happy to recognize David Person for his continued work in the community, as we celebrate Black History Month.

Excellent article clarifying the churches position on recent LGBTQ legislation before Congress.

Excerpt;.."The Adventist Church’s beliefs on human sexuality are unequivocal and are clearly expressed in various statements and guidelines touching on marriage, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
In all these statements there is a common thread of compassion and love; an affirmation that “all people, regardless of their sexual orientation, are loved by God” and that Adventists will never “condone singling out any group for scorn and derision, let alone abuse.”
It is this dual message—of upholding both religious freedom and human dignity — that is at the heart of the Fairness for All legislation."...

Seventh-day Adventist advocates are working to protect this vital human right within a culture that has grown skeptical of many religious freedom claims.
