In his essay, “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” Nicholas Carr raises the idea that with the deepening influence of the internet on our lives, we risk becoming “pancake people.” By this he means our intake of knowledge is “wide and thin,” as we have such vast repositories of knowledge at our ...

Sunday Nights at West Side: "Why God Makes Sense."

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. But is that reasonable in 2026? How can I share my faith with friends who think of God as a fable used to fill in the gaps in our knowledge until modern science removes any need for him?
Maybe you are skeptical about God, and have yet to hear a persuasive case for belief. Perhaps you are a believer, but you feel burned out by the kind of apologetics that tries to prove too much, treats science and faith as enemies, and fails to appreciate the beauty of mystery.

Beginning at 5pm on Sunday nights this summer, join me as we explore the mystery of faith in search for what is good, true, and beautiful. We will discover good reasons to believe in God, but relish in the beauty of an enchanted worldview, and delve into our sense of wonder, believing all truth is God's truth. We will explore helpful ways to engage in respectful dialogue with our friends and neighbors about faith, starting with appeals to our deepest instincts and desires, and working with (not against) all that we are gleaning from every field of learning. My approach is to begin with beauty, appeal to our sense of goodness, and then show how the beautiful and the good can lead to plausible models of truth.

Believing in God--particularly the God I see in Jesus Christ--is mesmerizingly beautiful, profoundly helpful, accords with my deepest intuititons, and serves as the best explanation for life's biggest questions. Can I show you why I think so?

Come thirsty. Come curious. "Why God Makes Sense." Sunday nights at 5 at West Side in Searcy.
