The family of Christ at St. Matthew’s-in-the-Pines extends heartfelt sympathy to Jill Tigner and her mother, Betty Owens, founding member of our church, as they mourn the passing of Charles deLacy Tigner.
Charles deLacy Tigner, 55, of Seale passed away Sunday, September 13, 2026 at home.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. EDT Friday, September 18, 2026 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, Alabama with the Rev. Donna Gafford officiating. There will be a private interment. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. EDT.
Charles was born July 31, 1971 in Columbus, Georgia son of Elizabeth “Betty” Pitts Tigner Owens and Kenneth Charles Tigner.
He attended Glenwood School and graduated from Blue Ridge Preparatory School in St. George, Virginia. Following high school, he attended Andrew College in Cuthbert, Georgia.
From an early age, music was at the center of his life. He was a gifted musician who loved performing, writing songs and playing the guitar and piano.
His other talent was being able fix almost anything. He never let the lack of the proper tools or materials stand in his way as he could “MacGyver” any repair—sometimes with just a paper clip and aluminum foil!
Charles was preceded in death by his father, step-father, Charles H. Owens; brother, Michael deLacy Tigner; and brother-in-law, Mike Venable.
Other than his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Tigner; two sisters, Jill Tigner and Melanie Myers and husband Marshall; nine nephews; as well as extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Blue Ridge School, 273 Mayo Dr., St. George, VA 22935 or Seale Cemetery Fund, 116 Dudley Loop, Seale, AL 36875.
