What a wonderful day at Pleasant Grove AME!

Friends and family came together and truly made it a celebration full of joy, love, and fellowship. We are so grateful for the incredible work of our committee, led by Sis. Linda Mitchell, who helped create such a meaningful and memorable day.

A very special moment was the heartfelt recognition of Brother William Laney and his many years of faithful service. What a blessing he is to our church family.

We also extend a sincere thank you to our guest church, Nichols Chapel AME, and Rev. Wendell Jones for sharing with us and helping make the day even more special.

The pictures don’t even begin to capture the joy, the laughter, and the spirit that filled the room. It was truly a Pleasant Grove kind of day.

Founders Day at Pleasant Grove AME was truly special.

Today we celebrated Black history, our AME heritage, and the courage of those who came before us. Dressed in our heritage attire, we honored the legacy of the great AME walkout — when our founders refused to accept injustice and chose to stand up for dignity, freedom, and the right to worship.

Our message today was simple but powerful:

“Get Up and Build.” Matthew 17:1-9

Just like Richard Allen and the founders of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, we are reminded that when doors close, when systems resist, and when obstacles appear — we don’t quit.

We get up.
We walk out when necessary.
And we build what God has called us to build.

Their faith built a movement.
Their courage built a church.
And now it’s our turn to continue the work.

At Pleasant Grove, we honor our past — and we’re committed to building for the future.

“Go all in.”
And I’m gonna be honest—there have been times I ignored the nudge…
but not anymore.

To go all in, we have to:
1️⃣ Trust God’s wisdom—even when it stretches us
2️⃣ Surrender our weakness—so God’s strength can show up
3️⃣ Follow the Spirit’s leading—even if it’s just one step at a time

And when we do that, we’re not just “trying” God…
we’re walking in the pattern of Jesus.
Jesus is not just our example—He’s our proof.
