Send a message to Long Beach Zen Meditation Group:
Long Beach Zen Meditation Group (LBZMG) is a satellite sangha of Yokoji-Zen Mountain Center (YZMC), led by Arthur WaYu Kennedy. YZMC is a fully-accredited, international Zen Training Center, nestled in the wilderness of the San Jacinto mountains east of Los Angeles, and is headed by abbot and Zen Master, Tenshin Roshi.
On offer at LBZMG is a Saturday morning program, which begins with 2 half-hour sitting meditation (zazen) periods, with a 10-minute walking meditation (kinhin) in-between. Next comes a brief break, with refreshments (coffee, tea & snacks) on hand. A dharma talk with discussion follows, given by one of Tenshin Roshi’s senior students. The Four Vows and announcements conclude the gathering. We also meet to sit together Thursday evenings. Sessions begin promptly, and the schedule is as follows:
Please join in for all or part of our sits. If you wish to take part at the beginning of the session, we ask that you arrive at least 5 minutes early to settle in for the recitation of the Heart Sutra. If you’re new to the practice, please try to arrive a half-hour early for Zen meditation instruction (ZMI), if possible. If not possible, please don’t let that stop you! You’ll still receive ZMI, and will enter in at kinhin instead.
All are welcome, whether seasoned practitioners or curious newcomers. Please note, we’re a non-profit organization, and are funded entirely by donations. That said, no one’s ever turned away for lack of funds.
Please feel free to contact us at [email protected] or at 562.206.0809 if you have any questions. For further information about our practice and sangha, an excellent resource is available: Yokoji’s website at zmc.org. Hope to sit with you soon! _/\_
