The practice of Lectio Divina or 'Divine Reading' is a way of deepening our experience of scripture, sacred texts or educational material. Traditionally, Lectio Divina has four steps which, although simple, make for a very profound mystical experience. The four steps are:
1. Lectio (Reading): Slowly and attentively read a short section of the text, perhaps several times.
2.Meditatio (Meditation): Meditate by thinking carefuly on the passage. Ponder on the possible meanings of the text without forming a definitive concept of those meanings.
3. Oratio (Prayer): Pray for deeper understand of the text.
4. Contemplatio (Contemplation): Contemplation is "prayer in silence." The final step is to let all thoughts go, "sitting quietly in the presence of God" and allowing room in the mind for the wisdom of the text to cultivate.
