RECAP: Yesterday we learned that God asks us our name. We learned earlier in this series, about the time when Jacob stole his brother’s birthright and he dressed up and pretended to be his brother Esau. He deceived his dad into thinking he was someone else. But at that moment, his dad, not seeing clearly, asked Jacob, “Who are you?” At that moment, Jacob lies and says he’s Esau.
Yesterday we learned that, in the same way his dad asked him, Jacob gets asked by God, “What is your name?” And finally, Jacob admits who he is. It’s in that confession that he finally lets himself be changed by God.
He became a new person after this encounter. A new name. A new identity. A new life to live. All because of God.
Today, God knows you, and He is inviting you to open yourself up to be known and loved by name.
He is asking you your name.
