The thief on the cross and the Sacraments.

The thief died on the cross with Jesus. He went with Jesus to Paradise. Salvation is in dying, rising, and living in, with, and through Christ.

But Christ has died, risen, and ascended once and for all. How can the Christian go back and participate in the cross of Christ?

We partake of Christ's death in Baptism and of His newness of life in Communion. The thief on the cross is part of a paradigm that includes the Sacraments.

Baptism and Communion are not meritorious works. Faith is a gift, and like "faith worketh by love," it also worketh by the Sacraments.

Thank God for our Great Physician and for the medicine that He has prescribed to us in order to heal us.
