Sunday worship June 7, 2026 - Hi Folks! Today we continued our study of Matthew 16:13-28. Today our focus was on verses 24 to 26 where Jesus says; “Whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” In this verse, the Greek word translated as “life” is the word “psyche” which also means “soul.” In Greek the same word is used for both “soul” and “life.” On this basis we looked today at ways we can understand what the soul is.

We determined that our body is like a vehicle that transports our soul through the world. Our soul is the true, inner person, the part of us that does not change even as the body changes year by year. We also looked at how the two contrasting depictions of Peter in this passage match the contrast between losing our soul and gaining it. In verses 15 to 19 Peter states that Jesus is “the Christ, the Son of the living God.” In verses 21 to 23, Peter is in an argument with Jesus because he wishes to prevent his return to Jerusalem and subsequent death. This mirrors the ways we can lose our true selves, our souls, or “lives” by becoming too attached to the worldly concerns our physical world can lead us into. In the end, we gain our lives, our souls, by letting go of them and trusting by faith that our lives, or souls will continue to exist after death.
I hope this message brings you a blessing. Blessings and Peace

Sunday worship May 31, 2026 - Today we looked at how we possess the keys to the kingdom of heaven. This scripture is in Matthew 16:13-20. The “keys” represent the authority to forgive or not forgive the sins we encounter in the process of living day by day. This authority comes from our being “the rock” upon which the community of faith is built. Most of the time most of us are unwilling to assume such responsibility and authority. We would often prefer to give such authority to some “expert” or religious leader. As Protestants and Presbyterians it is important for us to hold on to that personal authority. Through our faith we have and hold the power to interpret the scriptures and to forgive sins. We also hold the power to be active, foundational participants in a community of faith. I hope this message empowers you to hold the powers you have been given by faith in Christ. Blessings and Peace

Sunday worship May 24, 2026 - Hi Folks, today we looked at Paul’s teaching about Spiritual gifts from I Corinthians 12:4-11. We also read the main Pentecost narrative from Acts 2:1-21. We focused on ways we can each avail ourselves of a variety of spiritual gifts. The Holy Spirit is a way we have of describing the active power of God in our lives. This active power is the source of all our spiritual gifts. To increase our level of spiritual giftedness we need to have confidence in ourselves as people who possess unique and meaningful spiritual gifts. These gifts can help us to help ourselves and lift our spirits whenever we are in trouble. These gifts can also help us to encourage and to support one another as we apply our personal faith to the life situations we encounter. Spiritual giftedness helps us to build community. I hope you find a blessing here! Blessings and Peace

Sunday worship May 17, 2026 - Hi Folks! This was ascension week according to the traditional church calendar. With this in mind, our scriptures for today were Acts 1:8-11 and John1:48-51. We focused today on the promise of Jesus delivered to Nathaniel, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.” The idea here is that we can develop and improve our sense of spiritual vision when it comes to an attitude that ascends above the conflicts and failures of normal life. Following Jesus means following him in ascension. We also looked at other examples of ascension in the Old Testament including Enoch from Genesis 5:24, and Elijah from II Kings 2. All of these scriptures can help us to improve our spiritual attitude and ascend above a world full of problems. I hope this message is beneficial for you. Blessings and Peace
