Spring is in the air!!! So glad to be outside

Tonight's lesson. Trials and change

James 1:2-4 NLT
Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. [3] For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. [4] So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

1 Peter 1:6-7 NLT
So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. [7] These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold-though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world

Tonight I took a dozen eggs and had the kids try to hit a target. What they didn't know was that the eggs were different levels of cooked. Some were raw, some soft boiled, some hard boiled, and some extra hard.

So when thrown they all broke but in very different ways.

The difference was the time and heat they faced. Their trial

All of us face challenges. And they all change us. The thing is it is ok. Some of us go too early to face a test in life and like a raw egg it hurts a lot. Some are so hardened they don't even crack under pressure, but that also means they lose the power to change. Thos eggs turned green inside and looked and smelled rotten. So are we when we get to hard in our ways.

The goal is always be soft enough in spirit to let God change us and also let God harden us enough to face every test.

God will make us ready one test at a time to overcome everything in life😀

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 MEV
Hear, O Israel: The LORD is our God. The LORD is one! [5] And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. [6] These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be in your heart. [7] You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. [8] You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. [9] You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Tonight I managed to teach the kids an ancient way to read the scriptures. Lectio Divina

It's and old system to meditate on the scriptures.

In it you read scripture 3 times.

The first you read it just as is.
The second you listen for a word or phrase that grabs you that seems to speak to you.
The third you read and listen to God to see what he wants you to do with what is jumping out at you.

We read two sections this way. It was interesting to see the kids actually found words that hit them and that they meditated with. To see a room of teens actually sit mostly still was rare to see.

It was a good night and a lesson that meditation on the Word is not as hard to do as many think

Good Morning!! Remember youth group is Thursday this week as our church is hosting lent this week. Our goal tomorrow will be getting ready for Saturday 's dinner.

Tomorrow is our Risen Youth Christmas Party!!!

After school stuff just got canceled in Greenwich and Schuylerville so youth group is now officially canceled. Since if any of the schools cancel after school, I use it as a sign that we probably shouldn't be out on the roads.
