Here a book about his life.

My God and My All: The Life of Saint Francis of Assisi
by Elizabeth Goudge

The captivating story of the world’s favorite saint is now retold for a modern audience by one of the great novelists of our time.

Perhaps more than any other figure in Christian history since Jesus Christ, Saint Francis of Assisi has captured our imagination, for his is a story of extreme self-sacrifice, of love to God and man. How could this wealthy, handsome youth cast away all the advantages that were his by birth and choose instead a career of poverty and humility? How could he attract members of all strata of society to his mission? And how, when his order became established throughout Europe, could he renounce great personal power and humbly continue his life’s work?

Here is Francis, from his twelfth-century boyhood to his life as a missionary roaming the very boundaries of the known world. Here too are the men and women who followed him―Bernard de Quintavalle, the rich businessman; Peter Cathanii, the lawyer; Brother Giles, the farmer’s son; Lady Clare; and so many others―all drawn together by the personal magnetism and humble faith of their leader, all re-created by bestselling novelist Elizabeth Goudge against a rich medieval canvas.

Entering the Twofold Mystery: On Christian Conversion
by Erik Varden

In this follow-up to his critically acclaimed book The Shattering of Loneliness, Erik Varden provides a glimpse of the value of a monastic life and a Christian calling in our troubled modern age.

"Be whole and so be happy."--St. Bernard, founder of the Cistercian order

In the aftermath of a pandemic and the midst of political upheaval, Erik Varden has observed a growing interest in the monastic life – even among those who have no intention of entering a monastery. For in times of anguish and uncertainty, basic principles of monastic life have become particularly appealing.

Varden, Trappist monk and now Bishop, invites us to observe and learn from monastic life in our turbulent times. After a very personal introduction, he follows the Church year and seasons, always inspired by scriptural reading. The values he highlights include: tranquility; seeking peace; obedience; personal integrity; not continually passing judgement on others; asceticism as opposed to self-indulgence; the importance of generous hospitality; balance; and a life ordered to contemplation.

The teachings within the monastery offer simple, valuable lessons for readers of all creeds struggling to keep faith in an uncertain world.

Dear Friends!

Christine from Venture Imports was able to visit the home of Stella, and sent this report back, along with pictures (shared with consent).

Some years back, Stella was in need of a job. She was a single mother with four children to raise on her own. She joined the group as a sander, working on the easy pieces first. She soon became known as a very hard worker, often staying late to finish up a few more pieces before heading home. Eventually she becoming Head of the Washers (our pieces are so smooth because they are sanded under water before they are dyed). In this role "she transformed the workshop into a powerhouse of efficiency, mentoring other women, monitoring them and distributing pieces equally to the soapstone sanders."

With the money Stella earns, she has been able to buy a cow, which provides a more balanced diet for her children and also gives her an additional stream (literally) of income because she can sell the milk to other villagers.

Her first born child just completed her university education! This is the future she hopes to provide for all of her children.

Your looking for presents and buying is making it possible. And thank you. You are making a difference!

Alight with Hidden Glory
by Erik Varden

The richness of [these] reflections will continue for a long time to be for us a source of blessing, of grace, of encounter with Jesus Christ." Pope Leo XIV

Alight with Hidden Glory brings together the reflections preached by Bishop Erik Varden to Pope Leo XIV and the Roman Curia at the 2026 Lent retreat.

Informed by Scripture and the liturgy, illumined by the insights of Bernard of Clairvaux, a man who helped shape medieval Europe, the book addresses questions of timeless relevance: What is the meaning of freedom? How can we speak well about truth? How do we respond when high ideals are compromised by human betrayal?

Erik Varden reveals Lent not as deprivation but as a clarifying pilgrimage toward Christ's 'hidden glory'. This contemplative yet urgent work invites readers to walk the exodus path with renewed courage, vigilance, and hope.

God Calls Me His!
by Dana Redrick, Ellen Injerd

People call us different things we are labeled from the time we are born. Some labels are true, and some are not. Some are accurate for a time, but then we change, and they aren't accurate after that.
But the only label that really matters, in the end, is the label God puts on us. He tells us we are his own, dearly loved children.
And if we are his, and we are rejoicing in that fact, then the labels others put on us lose all power. They can't fill us with dread or fear or shame or pride.
Dre Dre, the boy in this book, has gotten many labels in his short life, but the one that is precious and eternal is this one: God's child.
