Welcome home, Holy Savior! 💙⛪️
Holy Savior Catholic Church in Lockport has reopened its doors nearly five years after Hurricane Ida, marking the final church reopening in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux following the storm.
Bishop Simon Peter Engurait celebrated the 10 a.m. Mass on Saturday, which included the Blessing of the Altar and the Rededication of the Church. “Processing in, I saw some tears—tears of joy, gratitude and awe at the beauty of this church,” said Bishop. “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad.”
In his homily, Bishop Simon Peter called the church “a glimpse into heaven,” reminding them, “I hope that every time we enter a beautiful place like this, we are led to the ultimate source of all beauty, God.”
Curtis and Mona Arcement, lifelong parishioners, said, “Returning to our beloved church after almost five years is like coming home. We are still here with hope and faith in Holy Savior.”
In the past five years, Holy Savior parishioners celebrated Mass in the parish’s "Little Church,” the former school cafeteria. The parish marked its 175th anniversary last year.
We extend congratulations and thanks to all parishioners who offered prayer, labor, time, and talent to help restore their spiritual home!
