As we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Schoenchen and St. Anthony Parish, we look back with pride on our history of faith. On June 5, 2008, a significant moment in that history took place right here in our church: the Transitional Diaconate Ordination of Father Joshua Werth.

While priestly ordinations are typically held today at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina, Fr. Joshua’s diaconate—where he made his lifelong vows of chastity and obedience—was celebrated here at St. Anthony. He remains the most recent son of this parish to be ordained. This milestone is a great joy for our community and the Diocese of Salina alike. We continue to pray for the many fine young men and women in our parish today, hoping that we may celebrate more of them answering the call to religious life in the years to come.

In honor of our 150th celebration coming up on May 24th, parishioner, Michel Werth shared another video. This one is from the First Mass of Fr. Alvin V. Werth (Nicholas and Magdalena Werth Family) in 1932! Fr. Alvin V. Werth was the first priest ordained from Schoenchen.
