Good morning and Blessed Pentecost. Today also marks our Parish Feast Day! Divine Liturgy begins at 10 AM followed by a potluck.

The Feast of Pentecost commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles on the day of Pentecost, a feast of the Jewish tradition. It also celebrates the establishment of the Church through the preaching of the Apostles and the baptism of the thousands who on that day believed in the Gospel message of salvation through Jesus Christ. The Feast is also seen as the culmination of the revelation of the Holy Trinity.

“O Heavenly King, the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, who are in all places and fill all things, Treasurer of blessings and Giver of life; come and dwell within us, and cleanse and save, O Blessed One, our souls.”

The seventh Sunday after the Feast of Holy Pascha is observed by the Orthodox Church as the Sunday of the Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council. This day commemorates the 318 God-bearing Fathers who gathered in Nicaea in 325 at the request of the Emperor, Saint Constantine the Great, to address the heresy of Arianism together with other issues that concerned the unity of the Church.

Christ is Ascended!

The Feast of the Ascension of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ is celebrated each year on the fortieth day after the Great and Holy Feast of Pascha (Easter). Since the date of Pascha changes each year, the date of the Feast of the Ascension changes. The Feast is always celebrated on a Thursday.

The Feast itself commemorates when, on the fortieth day after His Resurrection, Jesus led His disciples to the Mount of Olives, and after blessing them and asking them to wait for the fulfillment of the promise of the Holy Spirit, He ascended into heaven.

Divine Liturgy begins at 9:30 AM.

Christ is Risen! Christos Voskrese! Christos Anesti!

Today we commemorate the Apodosis, or Leavetaking, of Pascha - the final day of the Paschal Season. After today, the Paschal hymns will not be sung again until next year and the Plaschanitsa (Holy Shroud) is removed from the Altar and placed back in the case on the wall. Enjoy the final hours of Pascha and singing “Christ is Risen” before the season comes to a close.

Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and to those in the tombs bestowing life!

Tomorrow is the Feast of the Ascension!

On Wednesday of the sixth week of Pascha, we celebrate the Leavetaking of the Feast. While most Feasts have their Leavetaking on the eighth day, Pascha, the Feast of Feasts, has its Leavetaking on the thirty-ninth day. The fortieth day is the Feast of the Lord’s Ascension, which marks the end…
