🌸🙏 *Happy Rādhāṣṭamī!* 🙏🌸
*Rādhāṣṭamī* is one of the most confidential and spiritually significant days in the *Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava tradition* because it celebrates the *appearance of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī*—the supreme devotee of Śrī Kṛṣṇa and, in Gauḍīya siddhānta, the personification of His *hlādinī-śakti*, His spiritual pleasure potency.
The clearest statement comes from the Padma Purāṇa, traditionally included among the Purāṇas compiled by Vyāsadeva:
*yathā rādhā priyā viṣṇos*
*tasyāḥ kuṇḍaṁ priyaṁ tathā*
*sarva-gopīṣu saivaikā*
*viṣṇor atyanta-vallabhā*
The meaning is extraordinary:
*“Just as Rādhā is most dear to Lord Kṛṣṇa, Her lake, Rādhā-kuṇḍa, is also dear to Him. Among all the gopīs, She alone is His most beloved.”*
There is another very beautiful reference in Vyāsadeva’s Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. During the rāsa-līlā, Kṛṣṇa disappears with one particular gopī. The other gopīs see Their footprints and say:
anayārādhito nūnaṁ
bhagavān harir īśvaraḥ…
Meaning:
“Certainly this particular gopī has perfectly worshiped Lord Govinda, because He was so pleased with Her that He left all of us and took Her alone to a secluded place.” — *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.30.28*
Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura explains that the word ārādhitaḥ — “perfectly worshiped” — refers to Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī. The Gauḍīya ācāryas therefore understand this as one of the Bhāgavatam’s confidential references to Her.
*Of all the gopīs, Śrī Rādhā is uniquely the most beloved of Śrī Kṛṣṇa; Her devotion pleases Him so completely that even Kṛṣṇa becomes captivated by Her love.*
*Rādhāṣṭamī therefore celebrates the appearance of the highest example of pure, selfless Kṛṣṇa-prema—Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī. 🙏🌸*
