Bishop Hector shares about the flooding in Texas and how one can respond

🙏🏽CALL TO PRAYER AND ACTION FOR CENTRAL TEXAS🙏🏽

Our hearts are heavy as we witness the devastation caused by the catastrophic floods across Central Texas. Lives have been tragically lost, families uprooted, and entire communities left reeling. In the midst of such sorrow and uncertainty, we turn to the One who is our refuge and strength, our ever-present help in times of trouble. We are also monitoring the floodings and wildfires in the Nex Mexico area.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1

Let us come together in prayer:

• 🕊️ For those who mourn—may they be surrounded by comfort and peace.
• 🏠 For those who are displaced—may they find shelter, safety, and hope.
• 🚑 For first responders and volunteers—may they be upheld by God’s strength and courage.
• 🏛️ For local, state, and federal officials—may wisdom and compassion guide their leadership.
• ❤️ For our communities—may we be stirred to compassion, generosity, and faithful action.

As United Methodists, we are a connectional people. In times like these, we are called to embody the love of Christ, not only through our prayers, but through our presence, our gifts, and our service.

If you feel led to give, UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) is actively supporting disaster response in the affected areas. You can donate directly here:

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. Amen.

Safe Travels for this group on their way to visit Africa University, a place developed with the help of United Methodists to help educate new leaders in a broad range of fields for many African countries.

Join us in praying for more than 30 United Methodists of Upper New York as they begin their journey to Africa University! This pilgrimage journey is an opportunity to witness firsthand this ministry born of radical generosity and faithfulness. May God’s grace cover their travels, and may their hearts be inspired by the incredible work happening at AU. Keep this group and Bishop Héctor A Burgos-Núñez in your prayers!

As we begin the new year, we grieve the tragic terrorist attack in New Orleans. We pray for the victims, their families, and the community, asking God for healing and peace. Let us respond with prayer, compassion, and a commitment to justice, trusting that Christ’s light overcomes darkness. Together, may we be agents of hope and peace.
