All are welcome to come to our annual Blessing of the Animals event tomorrow, October 4, from 11:30am to 12:30pm on the front lawn of the church. It’ll be a real menagerie—and I hope you and the pets you love will be a part of it. And Crosby would love to see you too! Blessings, Pastor Sam

An enduring image after the tragic events of 9/11/01 is the Tribute in Light—the two columns of light that reach into the night sky from the footprint of the former World Trade Center. Meant to commemorate the loss of so many, but also the heroism and service of many more, it’s a reminder that light, like love, never dies—the theme of our church sign this week. We pray for strength and comfort for all who still grieve, and for hope that each one of us can use our gifts to heal the world.

Yesterday Pastor Sam talked about the Nativity story in a sermon titled, "Christmas in July." That God came into the world as a human being means that God understands the human journey intimately--and it also means that by looking at Jesus, *we* can understand God's concerns too. Watch the entire sermon on our YouTube page.

Gifted to the United States from the people of France to commemorate America’s first centennial, the Statue of Liberty still beautifully symbolizes the ideals of freedom: “Give me your tired, your poor, yearning to breathe free.” Through our challenges, in spite of our imperfections, may we keep our eyes fixed on that torch—and remember the broken shackles lying at her feet. Our story is still unfolding, and we each can help write the next chapter, with God’s help.

Happy Juneteenth! Today, we think of words by former Congressman John Lewis: “You must never, ever give out. We must keep the faith because we are one people; we are brothers and sisters.”

This past Sunday, Pastor Sam preached about the importance of faith through adversity--and referenced the New York Knicks winning their first championship in 53 years on Saturday night. As the team parades down the Canyon of Heroes today, let's celebrate the joy they've brought to the city.
