This verse comes right after some of the hardest words in the whole book, God naming Judah's failure in full, generation after generation of the same patterns, the same wandering.

And still God expresses love toward them.

God's love doesn't stop just because we walk away.

A full schedule does not necessarily produce a full life.

This Sunday we're in Luke 10:38–42, the story of Mary and Martha, as we continue our "Brand-New Season" series. Martha is running the house. Mary is sitting at Jesus's feet. And Jesus doesn't scold Martha for working. He tells her she's anxious about too many things, when only one thing is needed.

God works best in the wilderness and wasteland.

Bear one another's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. | Galatians 6:2

This verse is often quoted as "be nice to people." But when you read it in the context of verse 1, you see that Paul is talking about what happens when someone messes up.

When we mess up, the response is not exile, not shame, but making space to be seen for all that you are.

As the church, we are not supposed to be the place people hide their failures from. We are a place where they can bring them.

Joshua stood at the edge of a future he'd never walked before, uncertain terrain, no map, no precedent. And God's charge to him wasn't "don't be afraid because it will be easy." It was "don't be afraid because I am with you."

Whatever unfamiliar ground this new season is asking you to step into, you don't enter it alone.

We're celebrating together on Sunday, September 13th! We'll have one service that morning at 10:30, and then stay for a picnic afterward. We'll grill up burgers and hot dogs - just bring a side or dessert to share. There will also be a chance to sign up and get plugged into different ministry areas here at church.
