Dear Family and Friends,
Every weekday morning at 9:00, the Counselor on Duty stands at the front of the room and asks for a "show of Bibles."
Hands go up, from the newest Probie in the front row to the staff in the back, each one holding a Bible. Anyone who came down without one is handed one. Then someone is called on to pray us in, and Devotions begins.
It takes about ten seconds. Nobody would think to take a picture of it. It happens again tomorrow and the morning after, every morning of the eight months a resident is with us.
Somewhere in that front row this morning sat someone on what we call the "2-month plan." Nearly everyone who hears about the program says the same thing: eight months is way too long. So many arrive quietly telling themselves they'll stay two months and go home. They raise the Bible because they were told to. They sit through Devotions because it's on the schedule.
Then, for many of them, something happens that no schedule can produce. The Word they were only holding up begins to take hold of them.
It rarely comes in one dramatic moment. It comes the way the Westminster divines said it would, through the "outward and ordinary means" God is pleased to use. The Word read and preached. Prayer. Life shared under one roof. Morning after morning, chore after chore, the same passage read again until one day it lands.
That's the work of the Mission. It's ordinary, repetitive and slow, and in God's hands it gives life.
That work is carried the same ordinary way. The lights on at Wake Up. Breakfast at 8:00. The spaghetti on the table Thursday night after a day of fasting and prayer. All of it rests on people who give quietly, month after month, most of whom never see that front row. Our staff are graduates serving as unpaid volunteers, so what you give goes straight into the life of the house.
Some of you have stood behind those mornings for years. Thank you. You may never know which show of Bibles was the morning a heart finally turned. The Lord knows, and "God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name" (Hebrews 6:10).
If He has ever stirred you to be part of those mornings in a steady way, the door is always open.
P.S. A monthly gift takes about a minute to set up at https://donorbox.org/savannah-mission-bible-training-center, and you can change or cancel it anytime.
