The Independent Presbyterian Church of Savannah

The Independent Presbyterian Church of Savannah What we do is driven by what we believe. As a Christian Church, our beliefs can be summarized by the words Biblical, Reformed and Confessional.

Welcome to Independent. As any tour guide or history book may tell you, Independent Presbyterian Church has been part of Savannah since 1755 and its building is one of the central landmarks of the city. However, it would be a mistake to think of IPC as simply a historic monument or a curious throwback to an earlier time. While our principles and beliefs are historic, the life and work of IPC is ve

ry much in the present. Hundreds of people have found a spiritual home here - people of all ages and in different seasons of life. Families are encouraged, children are nurtured, older people are supported, and college students are challenged. If you are visiting with us, we are glad you're here. You may also want to check out our Inquirer's class. We are Biblical: we believe the Bible is the Word of God. The Bible is foundational to all that we believe and practice. In the Bible alone do we see the clear message of the Gospel - Jesus Christ who came to save sinners. By Reformed we mean that we hold to the historic understanding of Christianity known as Reformed Protestantism. We are Confessional in that our understanding of Christianity is summarized in the historic creeds and confessions of the church (Westminster Confession of Faith, along with the Larger and Shorter Catechisms.) The center and highlight of our church life is Sunday worship. Our goal is worship that is reverent, God-centered, Bible-filled, Gospel-structured, and Spirit-dependent. We are committed to the ordinary means of grace - we simply read the Word, preach the Word, sing the Word, pray the word, see the "visible Word" in the sacraments, and affirm the Word through the use of the creeds. As our name indicates, IPC is "independent" of denominational connection or control. However, all of our ordained pastoral staff are members of the Presbyterian Church in America and are themselves accountable to that government. We elect from our members Elders who oversee the spiritual care of the church and Deacons who attend to the physical needs of the congregation and wider community. While Sunday worship is central to the life of IPC, there is much more that goes on. We have focused ministries for families, young adults, youth, seniors, and college students. An extensive Christian education program also involves all ages. Ever year we hold special spiritual enrichment, missions, and Christmas services. We also have an excellent day camp during the summer (IPC Day Camp at Point Pleasant) that is a time of fun and learning for children and great witness to the community.
