Just saw this!
It's good to be number one normally, but in this case absolutely not. The most dangerous town in America with less than 15,000 people living there is in Illinois.

I saw this brand new ranking just shared on YouTube by World According To Briggs. This is a major channel with more than 1.23 million subscribers. They crunched numbers to look at what amounts to the most dangerous small town in America which means those places with 15,000 or less residents.

They say that Sauk Village, Illinois is the most dangerous small town in America and there are numbers to back that claim up. Wikipedia says this small Illinois place has just 9,921 residents. There's a lot of history in this part of the state with Native Americans occupying the land near Lake Michigan, but modern times have not been kind to Sauk Village.

Neighborhood Scout says the normal crime rate for Illinois is 2.87 for every 100,000 people. In Sauk Village, Illinois, the crime rate is a terrifying 36.54.
