The Synagogue was chartered in 1912 , and is one of the oldest ongoing Congregations in the Capital District. Since our inception, when we met in members’ homes, we have occupied numerous buildings. Our Present
Congregation Shaara Tfille was built in 1991. We are a full-service egalitarian, inclusive, Synagogue. We are dedicated to fulfilling the religious, educational and social needs of the Jewish community by promoting the tenets of contemporary Conservative Judaism while maintaining our values and traditions. Our building is a symbol of our dedication to religious services and our educational endeavors. We have a Kosher kitchen, library, cemetery and a large social hall that is suitable for Weddings, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs and other occasions. Our Future
The efforts that began in 1912 have provided a foundation to serve the needs and interests of in the Jewish community. Religious Services
Shabbat services are held every Saturday at 10:00am. We hold Friday evening services at 7:30pm on the third Friday of the month. Kiddushes and Onegs provide ideal opportunities for families to celebrate together. It is also a good time to enjoy the company of old and new friends. Services are held every Monday and Thursday morning at 7:30am. Services, celebrations and programs are held throughout the year. The High Holidays and all other Jewish holidays are observed. We pride ourselves on being egalitarian and inclusive of people of different faiths. Our Hebrew School
Our program strives to provide our students with awareness of their Jewish identity and values through education. The formal classroom study and experimental learning encourages them to develop a lifelong love for a commitment to their heritage. We teach the traditions, history, Hebrew, customs and life cycle events in a warm and individualized environment. Our goals is to give the students the knowledge and skills necessary to become proud, participating members of any Jewish community. We offer classes for children 3-13, Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation and a Confirmation Program. Adult Education
Learn to read Hebrew classes, ‘Lunch and Learn‘, lectures, programs and seminars are offered on topics including Torah, historical and contemporary issues.
92nd Street Y Live Broadcasts
We are thrilled to offer a diverse series of satellite broadcasts from "Live from NY's 92nd Street Y," which were are made possible by a grant from The United Jewish Federation of Northeastern NY. Sisterhood and Men’s Club
These active, integral parts of our Congregation provide support, programs, social and educational opportunities. Special Functions
We celebrate festive holidays like Sukkot, Simhat Torah, Hannukah, Purim and Passover, host dinners, have concerts and many other special programs to enrich the Jewish traditions. Bingo
We hold Bingo every Thursday except for some holidays. Doors open at 5:30pm and games start at 7pm. Progressive Bingo ticket sales end at 6:45pm. Only non-smoking areas. Open to the entire community. Newsletter
