Our Give Away the Plate recipient for June is Backstretch Employee Service Team (B.E.S.T), a nonprofit organization committed to supporting the health and well-being of the dedicated workers in the barn areas, or 'backstretch,' at Aqueduct, Belmont, and Saratoga racetracks.

They offer on-site counseling, primary healthcare services, access to health insurance, and case management support, all designed to meet the unique needs of these essential workers.

Join us at our flower communion service this Sunday, and think of the important services and support provided by BEST to care for the hardworking people who care for the horses, as you make your contribution to the offering basket.

Flower Communion
What a gathering—the purple
tongues of iris licking out
at spikes of lupine, the orange
crepe skirts of poppies lifting
over buttercup and daisy.

Who can be grim
in the face of such abundance?
There is nothing to compare,
no need for beauty to compete.

The voluptuous rhododendron
and the plain grass
are equally filled with themselves,
equally declare the miracles
of color and form.

This is what community looks like—
this vibrant jostle, stem by stem
declaring the marvelous joining.
This is the face of communion,
the incarnation once more
gracefully resurrected from winter.

Hold these things together
in your sight—purple, crimson,
magenta, blue. You will
be feasting on this long after
the flowers are gone.

✨ We’re Building a New Home Together ✨

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Saratoga Springs has outgrown our beloved Meetinghouse at 624 North Broadway. Our vibrant community — from our energetic children’s programs to our expanding outreach, social justice work, and partnerships with diverse local organizations has simply exceeded the space we have.

To continue nurturing spiritual growth, supporting our neighbors, and caring for the world we share, we’re building a new Meetinghouse. This will be a place of peace, love, reflection, and connection, open to the entire community.

As a 501(c)(3) religious organization, we rely on the generosity of people like you to bring this vision to life.

Please join us in creating a space where compassion, justice, and community can flourish. Your support truly matters.

✨ Social Justice Team Updates & Upcoming Events! ✨
We have a busy and inspiring month ahead! Here is a quick look at what’s happening in our community and how you can get involved:

🎵 Kindred Spirits Songfest Premiere: Thank you to the 20 music lovers who attended our interactive rehearsal! Mark your calendars for the official premiere on June 29 (6:30 – 8:00 PM) featuring performer and song leader Azzaam Hameed. This month's theme is Freedom!

📖 UUA Common Read: We are gathering interest for Social Change Now: A Guide for Reflection & Connection by Deepa Iyer. Check out the signup sheet in the sanctuary this Sunday to help us decide if we have enough interest to move forward.

🏳️‍🌈 PRIDE Month: June is almost here! We will be tabling at the Saratoga Pride Festival on June 28. If you'd like to volunteer to help table, please reach out to Audrey Belt or Mark Long.

🇺🇸 Flag Day Parade (June 13): Come march with the SSNY Social Justice contingent! We will be forming the "caboose" of the parade.

🎈 Juneteenth Celebration (June 19, 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM): Sponsored by Our Lodge Foundation at the Saratoga Springs YMCA. Enjoy gospel choirs, actors, local vendors, and a Cake & Ice Cream social. Tabling opportunities are available for a $25 suggested donation.

😂

UUs are very good at holding complexity.

We can affirm many ways to move through the world, connect to the sacred, or sing a beloved hymn… and still hold firm to the precise dishwasher loading diagram everyone should follow when using the congregation’s kitchen. 😄

That’s the beauty of our shared UU community life: we may not have perfect agreement, but we can be our best imperfect selves practicing how to live together with care, intention, and respect for one another.
