Join Us in Knitting Comforters for Those in Need

Peace by Piece had two productive days knotting, trimming, and binding. We knotted six comforters, and Jewel completed the binding on three. We are currently five comforters away from reaching the 2025 goal of 150. With sessions scheduled for December 16 & 17, we are confident that we will meet our goal. All are welcome to join us to celebrate. The comforters are donated to Mennonite Central Committee and distributed to people incrisis situations. Contact Gretchen Miller McTavish at 610.812.9169 if you have questions about how to be involved.

From Gretchen M.
Based on Sharon’s discussion about the church library’s books on Sunday, I checked out the piece of fiction, Furgge, and just finished it. This is not the most beautifully crafted tale nor the easiest to follow, but for those of us whose family roots go back to Switzerland and the Berne canton, it is more than interesting. I feel like I’ve been walking the Alps with the cows. The author does not stress the religious convictions but more the day to day lives of folks whose very well-being depended on making that tough decision to leave everything they knew and loved as they were being hounded off their farms. I was vaguely aware of the help offered by the Dutch Mennonites. I know that various branches of my family tree fled to Alsace, France and others to the Palatinate in Germany. There’s also a wee bit of discussion about the disputes with the Amish—how ridiculous to argue over buttons!

Upshot: an interesting and informative read about a particular time and place in history.
Did anyone else read a book from the Covenant library?

The selection for Covenant Women's Book Club Dec 3, 2025 7pm Listening for the Heartbeat of God: A Celtic Spirituality by J. Philip Newell is a work of religious history and spiritual reflection. In it, Newell explains how the background of Celtic Christianity can inform and shape modern Christian faith by presenting an alternative to the more dominant Roman-influenced traditions.

We will also be meeting this coming week on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 4 & 5, from 9 AM - 2 PM. Peace by Piece met this week and knotted six comforters. Jewel Shenk completed binding three of those, which are now on display in the sanctuary. The photo is of the recent meeting of comforter making groups in Ephrata, PA, showing some of the recipients of comforters in Ukraine....
