Today is Holy Thursday, the day we commemorate the Last Supper, the institution of the Eucharist, and Jesus washing the disciples' feet. It also includes the transfer of the Blessed Sacrament and stripping of the altar and marks the beginning of the Paschal Triduum, the three days leading to Easter. Holy Thursday emphasizes themes of humility, service, and love.

Join us tomorrow morning at St. Michael the Archangel, Siesta Key, for the Diocese of Venice taping of the televised Easter Sunday Mass with Bishop Frank Dewane. The taping begins at 9:30am and all are welcome. Wear your Easter best!

The Televised Mass for the Homebound on Palm Sunday (March 29), and Easter Sunday (April 5 and celebrated by Bishop Frank J. Dewane), will air for a full hour on both Sundays. In our area the Masses will air at noon on Tampa Bay 44.

Happy St. Joseph's Day! Today we honor St. Joseph, husband of the Virgin Mary and earthly foster father to Jesus Christ. Revered as the patron saint of workers, fathers, family, and the universal Church, St. Joseph is a model of obedience and faith as he completely submitted to God's will by accepting a pregnant Mary as his wife. He was both protector and guardian of the Holy Family.

The typical pastry often enjoyed on St. Joseph's Feast Day is the Zeppole di San Giuseppe. These are traditional Italian pastries, often described as doughnut-shaped cream puffs, that are either fried or baked, filled with custard, pastry cream, or ricotta, and topped with a cherry. I recommend Paisano's Italian Bakery on Stickney Point Road for zeppole (or any Italian pastries) but if you have other recommendations please share in the comments.
