Hail the Gods: Baldr/Baldur the fair one. He is the second son of Allfather and the Goddess F***g. He is a God of such beauty that light emanates from his body as beautiful as the hues of the sun. In some accounts love, peace, forgiveness, justice, and rectitude of conduct are said to be a part of his divine gifts. Baldur’s wife is Nanna and their son is Forseti. His Hall, Breideblick, is among the most beautiful Halls of Asgard. His tragic “wyrd” is his death, of which there are numerous accounts in various sources. One such account is that following a nightmare in which he saw his death, his mother pleaded with every object in every realm never to hurt Baldr. All objects made this vow except the mistletoe. F***g had thought it too young to pledge an oath. When Loki, the mischief-maker, heard of this, he fashioned a magical spear from this plant (in some later versions, an arrow). He hurried to the place where the gods were indulging in their pastime of hurling objects at Baldr, which would bounce off without harming him. Loki gave the spear to Baldr's brother, the blind god Höðr, who inadvertently killed his brother with it. For this act, Odin and the giantess Rindr gave birth to Vali who grew to adulthood within a day and slew Höðr. It is told that Baldur will be reborn following Ragnarock. The Gods with Us. (JG24)
