A Natividade de São João Batista

No dia 24 de junho, a Igreja celebra a Natividade de São João Batista, um dos poucos santos cujo nascimento é celebrado liturgicamente, devido à importância única de sua missão na história da salvação.

João nasceu milagrosamente de Santa Isabel e São Zacarias, que eram de idade avançada e não podiam ter filhos. O nascimento foi anunciado pelo Arcanjo São Gabriel, que revelou que a criança seria grande diante de Deus e prepararia o caminho para a vinda do Messias.

Quando João nasceu, seus familiares queriam dar-lhe o nome de seu pai, mas Isabel insistiu que ele deveria chamar-se João, conforme havia sido indicado pelo anjo. Ao confirmar esse nome, Zacarias recuperou milagrosamente a fala, que havia perdido por duvidar da mensagem divina.

A missão de João Batista foi preparar os corações para receber Jesus Cristo por meio da conversão, da penitência e do batismo. Por isso, ele é conhecido como o "Precursor do Senhor". Mais tarde, teve o privilégio de batizar Jesus no rio Jordão.

La Natividad de San Juan Bautista

La Iglesia celebra el 24 de junio la fiesta de la Natividad de San Juan Bautista, uno de los pocos santos cuyo nacimiento se celebra litúrgicamente, debido a la importancia única de su misión en la historia de la salvación.

Juan nació de manera milagrosa de Santa Isabel y San Zacarías, quienes eran de edad avanzada y no podían tener hijos. El nacimiento fue anunciado por el Arcángel San Gabriel, quien reveló que el niño sería grande ante Dios y prepararía el camino para la llegada del Mesías.

Cuando nació Juan, sus familiares querían ponerle el nombre de su padre, pero Isabel insistió en que debía llamarse Juan, tal como había indicado el ángel. Al confirmar este nombre, Zacarías recuperó milagrosamente el habla, que había perdido por dudar del mensaje divino.

La misión de Juan Bautista fue preparar los corazones para recibir a Jesucristo mediante la conversión, la penitencia y el bautismo. Por ello es conocido como el "Precursor del Señor". Más tarde tendría el privilegio de bautizar a Jesús en el río Jordán.

The Nativity of Saint John the Baptist

On June 24, the Church celebrates the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist, one of the few saints whose birth is celebrated liturgically because of the unique importance of his mission in the history of salvation.

John was born miraculously to Saint Elizabeth and Saint Zechariah, who were advanced in age and unable to have children. His birth was announced by the Archangel Gabriel, who revealed that the child would be great before God and would prepare the way for the coming of the Messiah.

When John was born, his relatives wanted to name him after his father, but Elizabeth insisted that he be called John, as the angel had instructed. When Zechariah confirmed this name, he miraculously regained his speech, which he had lost after doubting the divine message.

John the Baptist's mission was to prepare hearts to receive Jesus Christ through conversion, repentance, and baptism. For this reason, he is known as the "Forerunner of the Lord." Later, he had the privilege of baptizing Jesus in the Jordan River.
