More than 200 community members were present at The Ora - Morganroth Event Center last Monday to hear the remarkable story behind Carole King through journalist Jane Eisner’s compelling lens. Interesting enough, it was also Carole King's birthday that day! The conversation was filled with insight as Eisner shared her experiences as a trailblazing editor and lifelong journalist. Our guests loved having the chance to meet the author during the book signing that followed. We are grateful to the Jewish Book Council partnership and to everyone who joined us in this inspiring night.

On Wednesday, January 28, our community came together at The Ora - Morganroth Event Center to observe International Holocaust Remembrance Day and mark the 81st anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. Dr. Kathrin Meyer delivered a powerful message on the danger of Holocaust distortion and how twisting the truth continues to fuel antisemitism today.

The program, under the direction of Bette Zaret, included welcoming remarks from Dr. Anna Kohen, CEO Shepard Englander, and Chairs and M.C's Joyce and Rob Weiss. The audience was inspired by musical selections by pianist Stephen Fancher and violinist Dan Jordan, and a moving performance by the Advanced Treble Chorus from North Port High School Choral Boosters Holocaust survivors and second-generation survivor Agnes Schipper participated in a candle-lighting ceremony. El Malei Rachamim was chanted by Holocaust survivor and author Marcel Infeld, followed by the Mourner’s Kaddish led by Rabbi Mimi Weisel. The entire audience then joined together to recite the Hands Against Hate pledge.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us for this evening of remembrance and reflection. Explore upcoming programs at https://jfedsrq.org/events.
