The fight for the Voting Rights Act is ours—and it's bigger now.

Callais gutted Section 2 and nine Southern states lost federal oversight overnight. But voting is one front of many: safety, education, housing, economic freedom—all under attack.

We encourage you to join Freedom Summer, a nationwide season of action—opening Juneteenth Week, running through the John Lewis Days, Voter Registration Day, and Election Day. Movement and momentum for the midterms and beyond.

In the top left corner is white and red text that says "FreedomSummer" and in the top right corner is a semi-transparent white five-point star nested within a larger star, from the Juneteenth flag. Large white and red text reads, "The March is not over." Smaller text says, "NATIONWIDE June 20, 2026." Two red banners read, "JUNETEENTH Week of Action" and "SIgn up at freedomsummer2026.com."

As Unitarian Universalists, our faith calls us to act not only from compassion but from clarity — to make visible the knowledge, structures, and practices that sustain inequity, and to transform them into systems of shared power and shared possibility.

Wishing everyone deep love, care, and connection as we begin Pride Month this year. As a q***r, Afro-Latina cis-woman, I know well how important the example of BIPOC leadership is and how much q***r leadership matters.

To all of my LGBTQIA+ fam within Unitarian Universalism and beyond, may we celebrate our many gifts and community and continue to care for and encourage one another in all the days ahead. We are sacred, whole, and holy – and we are here to stay, to lead, and thrive.

Happy Pride, fam.

Like generations of Americans, Superman understood that diversity is America's strength. As he declared on this 1950 poster, which was originally distributed on brown paper school book covers by the Institute for American Democracy: "...if YOU hear anybody talk against a schoolmate or anyone else because of his religion, race or national origin -- don't wait: tell him THAT KIND OF TALK IS UN-AMERICAN."

Seventy-six years later, the message hasn't changed -- and neither has the need for it: Help Keep Your School -- and Your Country -- All American!

For books to help start conversations with kids about the value of diversity -- and about standing against hatred and prejudice -- visit our post "Standing Together: 60 Mighty Girl Books Celebrating Diversity and Acceptance": https://www.amightygirl.com/blog?p=13481

Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde has released a powerful book focused on helping kids learn to be brave and act compassionately, for ages 10 and up: "We Can Be Brave: How We Learn to Be Brave in Life's Decisive Moments" at https://bookshop.org/a/8011/9798217113828 (Bookshop) and https://amzn.to/3L6lRGk (Amazon)

For books for children and teens about the importance of standing up for truth, decency, and justice, even in dark times, visit our blog post, "Dissent Is Patriotic: 50 Books About Women Who Fought for Change," at https://www.amightygirl.com/blog?p=14364

For adult readers seeking inspiration and encouragement to take compassionate action, we recommend Bishop Budde's original book for older teens and adults: "How We Learn to Be Brave: Decisive Moments in Life and Faith" at https://bookshop.org/a/8011/9780593539217 (Bookshop) and https://amzn.to/40GpHtM (Amazon)

Come Participate in our Democratic Process!

Congregational Meeting this Sunday, June 7th immediately following service.

Members will be voting for next year’s Board of Directors, Endowment Trustees, Nominating Committee members, and next year’s budget. Proposed slates of officers and proposed budget were emailed out two weeks ago. If you did not receive, please contact Nelwyn. If you cannot come in person, please arrange for a proxy vote, as a quorum is needed!

As you noted in the mailing, the pledge drive was not high enough to cover all anticipated expenses, so cuts are proposed. The Board, Finance Committee and Reverend KC will answer questions. Zoom will be available for observation, but there will be no voting by zoom. Nonmembers are welcome to attend but not vote.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday!
