To call sinners from GUILT before God the Father into our only comfort, the GRACE of the Son, and to equip them for a life of GRATITUDE by the means of grace in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Both our Annual Reformation Conference and Christmas Concert were useful in promoting and strengthening our communion with other evangelical churches in our city. Since last November, I have begun to visit a Hispanic Pentecostal church. Every other Friday, I teach a Bible study on the Book of Psalms

"On October 25th, we hosted our Annual Reformation Conference. The conference went well, and we were both instructed and encouraged. People attended the conference following the afternoon sessions, while others joined later in the evening for a piano concert. We had a turnout of about 50-55 people (thankfully, the number doubled as compared to last year!). We made a broad estimation according to which 20% were our church members, 30% were protestants from other evangelical churches, while the remaining 50% were from a Roman Catholic background. All of them were local people living in Perugia or nearby, and only one evangelical couple attended from Rome."

"According to Hartmut Rosa, our age is characterized by 'alienation and acceleration'. Life is faster and faster, and relentless. The ever-new technologies' controlling power has produced the feeling that we are always late, running out of time. And such a rapid pace of life is a significant obstacle to our growth in grace because this state of things in our world affects us and our Christian walk. I recently received comfort in reading the following meditation: 'The kingdom [of God] spreads slowly but persistently, one believer at a time. Every church is a new pocket of resistance, every baptism another pledge of allegiance to the Most High, every celebration of the Lord’s Supper a denial of fellowship with lesser masters and a proclamation of the success of Yahweh’s mysterious plan'. So, as you read our slow-and-non-spectacular newsletter, please pray with us that we may trust the unseen-but-unstoppable work of Christ’s Spirit in hallowing the Father’s name among us here in Perugia. "

"On June 28, we hosted a Piano Concert in our church building. We had the privilege of having Carter Johnson, a professional pianist from Connecticut who is a member of an OPC church. Carter visited with us the first time in 2023, having been invited to play at a concert in Perugia. This year, Carter was invited again to play for one week at the Music Festival, so we planned a simple evening during which he played music by Bach and Schumann for about an hour. At our Christmas Concert, we had about 25 people in attendance, so we didn’t know what to expect this time. Imagine our surprise when around 65 people showed up! And among them, we had a number of unbelievers, some of whom visited our church a few times in the past. We were able to “gossip the gospel” during the concert and give away Bibles, books, and leaflets to a number of them. It was especially when Bach’s Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring was played (for two times) that a spontaneous opportunity offered itself for sharing a few words on the beauty and glory of the Savior. "

"At times, our lives seem to move along quietly, with no major events and nothing that disturbs the rhythm of our ordinary routines. But this seeming monotony isn’t a bad thing, especially if we have the discernment to be grateful for what is given to us each day. It is a good and beautiful spiritual discipline to wake up each morning and declare: This I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: the steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:21–23)"

"A few days ago, in our last prayer meeting at the Chiesa Riformata di Perugia we considered our need for a more zealous and humble effort in reaching out to non-believers (especially “nominal” believers). We prayed together for more commitment and openness in personal evangelism and the conversion of sinners here in Perugia. In regard to our engagement in prayer for the unconverted, we have the example of the apostle Paul: “Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved” (Romans 10:1). Therefore, as you read this newsletter, we ask you to join us in prayer accordingly."

With the first Lord’s Day of December, I began to preach a series of specifically evangelistic messages on the doctrine of the incarnation, but in such a way that it is suitable for those who usually don’t attend church. The sermons are intentionally and explicitly related to Christmas so that p...

"After the COVID-19 epidemic, we’ve been busy organizing an annual conference that will coincide with the anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. It is a project aimed at creating a space to foster in the city of Perugia a spiritual dialogue with different Christian theological and spiritual traditions, in the context of our secular age. Therefore, on October 26 and November 2, we’ll host two conferences on “The Experience of the Word: the Protestant Reformation as a Religious Revival”. On October 26 the speakers will be Rev. Dr. Daniel Borvan (Minister of Christ Reformed Church in Anaheim, CA), and Roman Catholic historian Dr. Domenico Segna. On Saturday, November 2 the speakers will be Rev. Michael Brown (Minister of the Reformed Church Filadelfia, Milan), and Roman Catholic biblical scholar Dr. Ludwig Monti. These conferences will be held in a public hall in the center of the city of Perugia to raise the interest of our co-citizens as we try to bring the Word of God into the public square."

"Therefore, as for us here in Perugia, we ask you to pray for the progress of the gospel in our region of Umbria in Central Italy and that we may abound in patience and hope, learning to have the interior attitude of “the farmer [who] waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains” (James 5:7)."

Lord willing, we will gather together for our annual Thanksgiving Service tomorrow evening (Wednesday, November 22) at 7:00 p.m. This service will be a wonderful opportunity for us to give thanks to our God who has given to us generously and far beyond what we could ask or imagine in Jesus Christ our Lord. We hope to see you there!

"One of the main concerns in the heart of the apostle Paul was securing the prayers of God’s people, not so much for himself but rather for the humble and bold proclamation of the mystery of the gospel, so that the divine Word might speed ahead and be honored. Therefore, we rejoice in knowing – through your emails, phone calls, and other forms of communication – that you are persevering with us in prayer for the blessing of the Spirit upon the witness of the Chiesa Riformata di Perugia."
