To my own mild surprise, I gathered my courage and attended my 50th high school reunion in Lincoln, Nebraska. I actually had a very good time, as can be seen in a few of these photos. Out of a class of 485 kids, maybe close to a third of them came to the reunion, including three of my old running buddies. Special thanks are owed to Will Fraizer (in the red shirt) who has been my loyal friend for 55 years, and drove me all over the city of Lincoln--and out to the town of Seward--during the past four days. I had a lot of really good conversations with people and it was fun.

June running: 5k, 31:11, best time I've recorded at a 5k run since 2019. I'm not yet sure if I can continue to stay ahead of aging, but at least this season I'm well ahead of last year, which is something.

Wednesday, on the waterfront in Ventura. 5k in 31:49, 9th out of 17 in my age group, 60-69. Since I'm one of the oldest guys in 60-69, I thought that was pretty good. All three men in the 70-80 ag beat me, however, which is humbling.

The Three Sisters.

The name was an afterthought, actually, as I made no attempt to paint a picture of Oregon's Three Sisters--but there might be a little resemblance. I struggled with the quilting, which was just hard on this one; it came out OK, but it has some small flaws here and there. I'm offering this quilt to anyone who'd like to own it and make me an offer. Sometimes I get a handsome sum for a quilt and other times not, but it doesn't matter to me, really, because I just love quilting and that's why I do it. Measures 96" x 93".

Before and after 5k event this morning, Agoura Hills, California.

The weather gods took pity and held off the rain long enough to finish the run: 31:26, 9th out of 26 in my age group, 65-69. Felt fairly happy with that. There were literally thousands of people at this thing, 1500 in the 5k alone. So, that made for intense traffic, not unlike driving with people swerving all over the road. Kids being kids.

Rev. Phoebe came with me and took the photos. I'm so blessed to still be able to run at all given all that my body has been through in this lifetime.

Back to bench making. These were all made of repurposed wood; two from a retired meditation platform (pine); and three from a retired Segaki altar (fir). The wood is not high quality, so I cut it into strips from which I can remove most of the flaws, then glue into a laminate. These came out pretty nice.
