We must understand and believe that we are all sinners. We are God's enemies because we sin in our thoughts, attitudes, and actions. We have broken His laws. So we are separated from Him. God is Holy, perfect, and just so He cannot accept us with our sinful hearts. God is the one who initiates our reconciliation back to Himself. He did this by coming to this earth being born as a baby, growing to become a man, and dying on the cross to take our punishment upon him so we could be forgiven of our sinfulness. We can't try to earn our way back to God by our own efforts. It was completely paid for by Christ's work on the cross. We receive God’s forgiveness by personally believing we are sinful and in need of a right relationship with Him. By coming to understand that it's a personal trust in Jesus' death and resurrection alone that makes us stand right with Him. You must be willing to stop living your life in sin and allowing Him to be the Lord (boss) of your life.
