Today, Monday 7 September, we celebrate the birthday of His Holiness Sakya Gongma Trizin Rinpoche. His Holiness was born in 1945 in Tsedong, Tibet, and served as the 41st head of the Sakya tradition for over fifty years. He is also one of the principal teachers of Lama Jampa Thaye, founder of Dechen.

His Holiness the Sakya Trichen is a member of Tibet‘s noble Khön family, which founded the Sakya tradition in the eleventh and twelfth centuries.

In addition to his leadership of the Sakya tradition, His Holiness Sakya Gongma Trichen is renowned throughout the world for the brilliance and clarity of his teachings and his fluency and precise command of English. Receiving teachings directly from His Holiness carries a special lineage of blessings from the founders of the Sakya tradition, as well as from Manjushri himself.

Through the kindness of His Holiness and at the invitation of Lama Jampa Thaye, we have been privileged to welcome him to many of our Centres across Dechen. Most recently, in July this year, the Dechen Sakya centres in London and Bristol co-hosted His Holiness and his son, His Holiness the 43rd Sakya Gongma Trizin, for a joyful and extraordinary weekend of teachings.

All of us send our wishes to His Holiness for continued long life and the flourishing of all his activities!

We enjoyed a lovely day at the temple with Laura Rubio from Sakya Dolma Ling, our sister center in Mexico City. Laura gave a presentation on the key Sakya mind training text, Parting from the Four Attachments and there was plenty of lively discussion and questions!

Today marks Chökhor Düchen - the day Buddha Shakyamuni gave his first teaching, turning the Wheel of Dharma and sharing the Four Noble Truths at Sarnath.

Public Talk - Kindness to Animals - Saturday April 18, 10.30-12pm -

Having become a Buddhist, we vow not to harm any being. But beyond that, our everyday relationship with animals—especially pets—can become a powerful way to cultivate compassion and accumulate merit through feeding, protecting, and caring for them.
