Messiah House - NM

Messiah House - NM A faith based transformational home for recently incarcerated women. Some of the wounds are self-inflicted; most are from their unsafe living conditions.

This is what we saw:
Most of the women are in their 20's
Most have several children
Most have a family history of incarceration
Most live in unsafe, abusive conditions
Most have issues with drug and alcohol addiction
All are deeply wounded.

From my dear friend Elly Sherr:
12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS
What in the world do leaping lords, French hens, swimming swans, and especially that partridge who won't come out of the pear tree have to do with Christmas? Today I found out!
From l558 until l829, Roman Catholics in England were not allowed to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics. It has two levels of meaning; the surface meaning, plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality, which the children could remember.
The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ. Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments. Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love. The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament. The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation. Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit: Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy. The eight maids a milking were the eight beatitudes. Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace. Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-control. The ten lords a-leaping were the Ten Commandments. Eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples. Twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed.
So there is your history lesson for today. Now I'm not trying to preach or anything like that, but I found this interesting and creative, and now I know how this "very strange"song became a Beautiful Christmas Carol.

Due to a generous friend of Messiah House Ministry we are still able to match your gift--through the end of this year--by midnight this Saturday. We wanted to send you this hopeful video about life in New Mexico's women's prison produced by KOAT. We deeply value these women's lives!
We thank you for helping Messiah House finish 2016 strong and start the first transition home for previously incarcerated ladies in Santa Fe--our beautiful capital city--in 2017! Because of you we have already obtained close to half of our target goal--the operating expenses for 2 women for one year! We won't give up on serving these ladies and providing them a 2cd chance!
Please spread the word for others to have their gift doubled today.
We are so grateful to each and every one of you, thank you, thank you and may God bless you richly in 2017!
We will continue to keep you posted on our progress and we thank you for your prayers, they mean everything to us,

The ‘Women's Faith-based Transformation Home’ team just posted on Generosity 1 new Announcement:
COMPASSION: A POWERFUL & NURTURING QUALITY OF LOVE
Compassion is one of the highest ways to express our care for each other. During this holiday season, let’s remember to have compassion for those who are enduring distress and hardships by being marginalized or forgotten in our society. Our New Mexico post-incarceration ladies--who are striving for a better life--fit this category. We want to serve them with the deepest compassion at Messiah House.
The energy of compassion goes to the highest need, which is not always the most attractive or easiest to help. True compassion weaves its magic with unconditional love and acceptance of meeting a person’s needs exactly where they are at in the moment. Isn’t this what our Christmas season is all about?
It’s also valuable to remember that self-compassion de-stresses and renews us during such a busy season. Practicing care, kindness and compassion for each other and ourselves gives us energy and definitely aligns our hearts!
We thank you dear donors for your great compassion for the future ladies who will reside at Messiah House. We pray God blesses your Christmas season richly with faith, hope and love and of course—a lot of fun with family and friends!
Merry, Merry Christmas to You Southwest style!
The Messiah House Team
P.S. And thank you again for graciously sharing our story with others.
