Something exciting is coming for college students across Southern California.

On Tuesday, September 22, students from throughout the area will gather at Pepperdine for UNITE LA; a night centered around prayer, worship, encouragement, and Jesus.

And North Oaks has been invited to be part of it.

We’ll have a booth at the event where students can meet people from our church, learn about North Oaks, and discover opportunities to connect and grow with us.

If you’re a college student; whether you already have a church home or you’re still figuring out where faith fits into your life, we’d love for you to be there.

And if you know a college student anywhere in Southern California, send this post to them.

More details coming this week.

Tomorrow, we’ll gather again.

Not because any of us have it all figured out.

Not because church is about checking a box.

But because we need Jesus—and we need each other.

This Sunday, our message will be about something that matters deeply:

It’s not about religion. It’s about relationship.

We’ll share breakfast, open God’s Word, worship together, pray together, and spend time with people who are trying to follow Jesus in real life.

If you’ve been looking for a church in Santa Clarita, or you’ve been wondering what church is supposed to be about in the first place, we’d be glad to have you with us.

Twenty-five years later, it still doesn’t feel that long ago.

For those of us who remember September 11, 2001, there are things about that day you just don’t forget.

Where you were.
What you were doing.
The images on television.
The confusion.
The fear.

Nearly 3,000 people went to work, got on a plane, or started a normal Tuesday morning and never came home.

Families lost people they loved. First responders ran toward something everyone else was trying to escape. And countless lives changed in a matter of hours.

Today, we remember them.

We pray for the families who still carry that loss. We pray for the people whose lives were changed forever. And we pray for our country.

As followers of Jesus, we also pray that we’ll be people who bring His peace, love, and hope into a world that still desperately needs all three.

We remember.
We mourn.
We pray.

Sometimes loving your neighbor looks extraordinary.

Most of the time, it doesn’t.

It looks like noticing.
Listening.
Helping.
Checking in.
Showing patience.
Making room.

Jesus didn’t tell us simply to agree with our neighbors.

He told us to love them.

And every ordinary day gives us another opportunity to do exactly that.

Some prayers are big.

Some seem small.

Some have been prayed for years.

And sometimes we don’t even know exactly what to pray.

Whatever is on your heart tonight, we’d be honored to bring it before God with you.

You don’t have to pray alone.

We sometimes imagine serving God means doing something extraordinary.

But much of faithfulness happens in places that feel very ordinary.

Doing our work with integrity.
Treating people with kindness.
Being patient at home.
Helping someone who needs us.
Choosing what is right when nobody is watching.

Colossians 3:23 reminds us that whatever we do, we can do it as something offered to the Lord.

So wherever God has placed you today,

be faithful there.

Today, many of us get a chance to slow down from the normal rhythm of work.

And that’s worth receiving with gratitude.

Scripture reminds us that there is dignity in our work—but our work was never meant to become our identity.

Work faithfully.

Serve others well.

Rest when it’s time to rest.

And remember that before you are an employee, employer, student, teacher, parent, volunteer—or anything else—

you belong to God.

Happy Labor Day from North Oaks.
