See article to learn "how Presbyterians are showing up in the face of violence and hate.” Many of you know Sean Chow, former pastor in the Santa Barbara Presbytery and current Exec for San Diego Presbytery: “In a time when division and suspicion can so easily take root, may we instead choose the harder and holier path of compassion, relationship and mutual care,” Chow wrote in a follow-up communication to presbytery members. “Our Muslim neighbors are not strangers to us. What does Sabbath mean to you? We will welcome seminary professor and author Rev. Dr. Travis West to First Pres on Wednesday, May 20th from 5:30 - 7:30 pm for a dinner and a presentation on practicing Sabbath. Travis will then preach and lead our Adult Education class the following Sunday, May 24th. We have 100 copies of The Sabbath Way (signed by the author!) available for those who would like one.

As we process yet another act of violence at a house of worship Monday morning, my heart aches for the victims of the deadly shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego. No House of Worship should ever be the target of violence. May God comfort the grieving families and loved ones of the victims. May God be very near to all who bore witness to this tragedy and will relive the trauma for years to come. Lord, have mercy upon us.

Jesus said, "Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called Children of God." May each one of us choose to stand for justice and peace for all people and an end to the violence that has become all too common in our nation and world. Joining with others in prayer 🙏🙏🙏
