Santa Barbara Mission Conference

Santa Barbara Mission Conference Connecting the Church to join God’s work in our community.

The Presbytery of Santa Barbara and First Presbyterian Church of Santa Barbara join together each year to present a conference dedicated to missional knowledge and discussion. Partnering in the presentation are the Free Methodist Church in Santa Barbara, the Center for Transformational Leadership, the Montecito Covenant Church, and other churches.

Our gathering is tomorrow. We are excited to have some neighbors sharing their stories with us.

As we look forward to next Saturday, we are reflecting on what makes this gathering so special. This is the best opportunity each year to gather with many diverse Christians who share a deep care for our local community—to hear stories, celebrate good work, and share challenges. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.
Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

We are so excited to have Dr. Soong-Chan Rah from Fuller Seminary as our keynote speaker for this year as he speaks about Biblical lament, healing, and hope.

In addition to learning from Dr. Rah, you’ll have many opportunities to connect with other Christians who care deeply for our community as we learn from each other, share challenges, and celebrate the ways God is at work.

We are hopeful this will be a powerful opportunity for connection and learning. There’s still time to register!!

May the beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-10) from the First Nations Version breathe new life into you as you remember our Creator who centers the margins in his Kingdom.

Creator’s blessing rests on the poor, the ones with broken spirits. The good road from above is theirs to walk.
Creator’s blessing rests on the ones who walk a trail of tears, for he will wipe the tears from their eyes and comfort them.
Creator’s blessing rests on the ones who walk softly and in a humble manner. The earth, land, and sky will welcome them and always be their home.
Creator’s blessing rests on the ones who hunger and thirst for wrongs to be made right again. They will eat and drink until they are full.
Creator’s blessing rests on the ones who are merciful and kind to others. Their kindness will find its way back to them—full circle.
Creator’s blessing rests on the pure of heart. They are the ones who will see the Great Spirit.
Creator’s blessing rests on the ones who make peace. It will be said of them, ‘They are the children of the Great Spirit!’
Creator’s blessing rests on the ones who are hunted down and mistreated for doing what is right, for they are walking the good road from above.
