St. Athanasius was blessed to receive a grant in 2024 from the Orthodox Vision Foundation for several projects that provided training and nurturing of liturgical arts and artists. Three very talented iconographers in our parish were able to travel to study under various master teachers. We also used part of the grant funds to film this instructional vocal warm-up for individuals and ensembles. It is geared towards Orthodox liturgical singers.
I am very thankful to the singers at St. Athanasius for their willingness to participate in this project. They give a great deal of time and energy to the music ministry are a huge blessing to our parish, week after week!

The same day that we made the warm-up video we also filmed "Tips from the Trenches for Orthodox Liturgical Singers," which was, essentially, me sharing some thoughts about vocal technique, church singing, music ministry, and the responsibility of being a music leader, based on my 35-plus years of working in the music ministry. Those who know me know that I hold myself (and those with whom I work) to a pretty high standard. I do not back off from that in this video. Just giving you a heads up. Not everyone will agree with my opinions. Take what is useful. Leave the rest. I will also post the "Tips from the Trenches" video separately, but here is that link: https://youtu.be/v7LXfXQ_ZrU
I thank God for the opportunity to record these videos and I pray that they are helpful and/or an encouragement to some.
Many thanks to John Butler for filming and editing both videos.
