Santa Barbara Friends Meeting (Quakers)

Santa Barbara Friends Meeting (Quakers) An Unprogrammed Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends Welcome. What happens at Meeting for Worship? Are children welcome? Please don’t be.

Please join our Meeting for Worship on Sunday from 10:00am - 11:00am at:

Santa Barbara Friends Meeting House
2012 Chapala Street,
Santa Barbara,
CA 93105

First Day School (at the same address) is from 10:00am - 10:50am (then children join the Meeting)
Meeting is followed by After thoughts, Announcements and Informal Fellowship from 11:00 to 11:30. The Santa Barbara Friends Meeting is an unprogra

mmed Quaker Meeting, without a minister. Friends sit mostly in silence, although anyone who is moved to speak may do so. There is also an opportunity to share your name, add any after thoughts and make announcements after the service. Each week we close the Meeting with light refreshments and there is time for informal fellowship. As a visitor to an unprogrammed, or silent, Meeting you may be concerned about whether your children are being quiet enough. The occasional noises of small children and babies are welcomed, as is breast feeding. Most children have a tough time sitting silently for a full hour, so feel free to bring paper and crayons, or a book to read for older children. Your children are also very welcome to attend our supervised First Day School, which is just alongside the Meeting Room. All the children from First Day School come and sit with the Meeting for the final ten minutes. A Worship Group under the care of our Monthly Meeting meets weekly in Ojai, California. A Seeker's Meeting, a prayerful consideration of a topic of interest to Friends, often follows Meeting for Worship on the first first-day (Sunday) of the month. An adult Quaker Spirituality Reading Group meets fifth-day (Thursday) evenings from 7-9 PM at the home of Sanjiv Kamath. For more information, please contact Sanjiv Kamath at 682-7666.

Quaker Tapestry!

We're thrilled to hear that the Quaker Tapestry will be made available to the public again from 6 May.

We're also thrilled that FWCC trustees from Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, El Salvador, Australia, Aotearoa, Philippines, Germany and the USA will be there on the day of the reopening.

The Quaker Tapestry is hosted by Quakers in Kendal (North West England), but the story it tells us is shared by Friends all over the world.

Thank you to all who help us to keep sharing this common heritage.

Congress approved a provision buried in the 2026 National Defense The National Defense Authorization Act 2026 that will authorize the culling of information from other federal databases to automatically and involuntarily register men with the SSS. National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passed at the end of last year will make federal Selective Service draft registration automatic for all men aged 18-25 starting in December 2026. Unfortunately, a person cannot file a conscientious objection claim until getting an induction notice once a draft is instated, sometimes giving less than 10 days to respond.

NORTH AMERICA — Event: Quaker author Curt Torell will explain recent legal changes in draft registration and outline steps for conscientious objectors to war to respond. Then the group will self-or…
