Calvary Cemetery

Calvary Cemetery Rich in heritage, Calvary Cemetery has been a peaceful resting place for Catholics in Santa Barbara Stockman, an important figure in local history.

The second-oldest cemetery in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, it was established by Jesuit priest and botanist Father P.J. A missionary from Belgium, Father Stockman also founded a school and hospital. The towering Santa Ynez Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop for this cemetery and its lovely traditional works of religious art, including statuary and the Stations of the Cross. Rich in flora, th

e cemetery still reflects the care of its botanist founder. Those who rest in Calvary have their repose on sacred ground, and among important figures in history and culture. Calvary is successor to Santa Barbara’s original Mission Cemetery.
