Ethnos360

Ethnos360 www.ethnos360.org/about Ethnos360 is steadfast in its goal of reaching people who have no access to the Gospel.

That was the vision for our ministry when we were founded in 1942 as New Tribes Mission, and it is our vision today. Our founders had a vision for reaching the world: “By unflinching determination we hazard our lives and gamble all for Christ until we have reached the last tribe regardless of where that tribe might be.” - Brown Gold, our magazine in 1943, Issue 1

That vision hasn’t changed, but

the world has. We face new challenges, and we are learning to face them together – relying upon God to unite His people to overcome them for His glory. Ethnos360 continues to trust God, and God continues to be glorified. Today more than 3,000 Christians serve throughout the world, and training programs in more than a dozen countries prepare Christians for service among the thousands of peoples who have yet to hear.

The Resurrection and the Great Commission are one story. Today as you celebrate Easter, the resurrection of the Passover lamb, Christ Jesus, remember His final words on Earth ...

“Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone from the door and sat on it. His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. And the guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men.

“But the angel answered and said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.’

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.”

Matthew 28:1-7, 28:18-20

Join us today as we reflect on the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ and look forward to Sunday with hope and thankfulness that the story does not end at the cross.

“After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, ‘I thirst!’ Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. So, when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, ‘It is finished!’ And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.”

“They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting,
‘Hosanna!’
‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’
‘Blessed is the king of Israel!’
Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written:

‘Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion;
see, your king is coming,
seated on a donkey’s colt.’

At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him.”

John 12:13-16

George Liele

Geroge Liele was born into slavery in 1750 in Virginia. Liele spent his enslavement preaching the gospel and led other enslaved people to faith in Christ’s finished work. After his emancipation, Liele became the first African American to be formally ordained and was the first ever Baptist missionary to serve internationally. George, his wife, Hannah, and their four children went to Jamaica to serve as missionaries in 1783. By 1814, his ministry had produced an estimated 8,000 conversions, despite being imprisoned by the local government for over three years for his gospel work. He died in Jamaica in 1828.

Jaqueline Huggins

Serving with Wycliffe Bible Translators, Jacqueline Huggins made history by becoming the first African American woman to finish a New Testament translation. Scottie and Louise MacGregor began the translation for the Kagayanen people in the Philippines in 1976, where Jacqueline Huggins and her translation colleague, Carol Pebley, later joined. Together they finished the translation, and in 2008, the Kagayanen people dedicated their New Testament.

Did you know that many of the unreached people groups of the world do not have a written language? That means that before our missionaries can translate and preach the Word of God in their mother tongue, they must first develop an orthography (alphabet) and literacy program for the people group they work with.

Literacy among a remote, unreached people group not only gives them greater access to education, trade and the opportunity to create their own literary resources, but most importantly, literacy gives them the skills to read the Word of God in their language.

With the Word of God in their hands and the skills to read it for themselves, they can be dependent on the Word and independent from the missionary.
